      In terms of soul usage:

Levelling up > Upgrading weapons > Upgrading armor

Priorities. Armor should always be the last thing you want to upgrade, because if you're relying upon boosted armor to make it through a level, you have bigger problems.

Id say upgrading weapons is your priority not soul level

Been watching people stream DS the last few days. Crazy how good some people are at it.

It's a lot less frustrating to watch than it is to play, lol.

Yeah, I've learned to love the Zwei and smash things. I use the Falchion for smaller enemies and most things.

I finally was able to kill Quelag(sp?) after a few tries, and met her sister. I took a trip back to Firelink, and Krampt was there, staring me in the face. It takes a bit to get used to him

I'll use the Black Eye Orb later, and I guess I have to go talk to onion man by the now open gate. I'm really loving the Zwei for bigger enemies and bosses. Especially since I made it lightning with shards found in Blighty.

Ha, yeah. I was looking up was to beat Quelag...

"ah, so this guy just rolled to the right, should be easy now!"

Agree on the weapon prioritization. Level up to get the bare minimums to run the weapon you want and give yourself some good endurance and focus on your weapon next. The quicker you can ditch the Drake (if you use it) the better.

I ended up installing the aggression mod since I play PC since I ended up remembering a lot more enemy locations than I thought I would have since I played it on PS3 back when it first came out. Anyone that has interest in playing this again, on pc with this mod is the way to go. Sens Fortress is a damn nightmare again. I can't imagine how bad late game is going to be.

For those that may not know the aggression mod makes enemies way, way more aggressive so they don't wait around, they come find you. So despite knowing where almost every enemy and trap in the game is, I'm now forced into that good old habit of going nowhere, especially around a corner without my shield raised. But even that doesn't stop a Balder Knight from running up and stabbing me in the back.

But that's just the way i played the game. Got strong enough to use the Demon Great Axe and a certain shield you'll find and blitzed them to the highest upgrades I could.

Actually, adding to your stats can increase damage output of your weapons. Some weapons scale with a particular stat, some with more than one stat. The Falchion normally scales with Dex, but if you make it into a Divine Falchion it would scale with both Dex and Faith. The Demon Great Axe obviously scales with Strength. And as you upgrade the weapon, it typically increases just how much it scales with the particular stats.

Some weapons, however, don't scale with any stat like the Dragon Weapons. (Drake Sword, Dragon Great Sword, Dragon King Great Axe, etc.). Their damage output only increases by using Dragon Scales.

True but that's the most effective once you know how you like playing and what tree you want to go down and a new player may not know that yet and invest in a direction they won't like playing later. You really don't need to be heading toward any particular specialization until just before you head to Lando. But if you do know how you want to specialize then yes, leveling to add the scaling damage is awesome, but I wouldn't think a new player would have a +5 weapon with a move set they knew they wanted to keep using until maybe around the time of the second bell.

He may not know what type of guy he wants to play yet. I'm just letting him know that adding to stats can definitely increase the damage output of your weapons and very noticeably if the weapon is one that scales with that particular stat.

I'm going the Dex route. Light Armor for speed and Dex Weapons. Right now my favorite is the Uchi which I've managed to get to +10 so far. Currently about to hit Sen's fortress. I love the combo of the Cloranthy Ring and the Grass Crest Shield by the way.

I'm using a very similar build but right now I am using the iaito, but just farmed the Balder Side Sword so I'll probably transition to it since I like thrust more than slash.

I like the katanas. I've got the all. I've got the Uchi at +10 and the Iaito at +5. I'll probably make the Iaito into the Chaos Blade once I get it to +10. I'm just going to keep the Uchi normal and take it to +15. I've got a BSS too and took that one the divine route.

Its true, however, you get the case of diminishing returns as you get higher and higher stat increase. After I got a little over 50 strength when using my Demon Great Axe I wasn't really adding much more damage. Maybe 10 points or so.

Granted I'm BLASTING enemies for 500 - 1200 damage depending but still.

I've heard good things about the Uchi. If I'm thinking about the right sword, it's the one you get from Shiva, or if you kill the male undead merchant, right?

I was tempted to take him out while at the Burg, but didn't.

Yep, the Uchi is the one you get from the merchant in the Undead Burg if you kill him. You also get the Residence Key and Orange Soapstone if you haven't already bought them
