Maybe it has to do with where you are located within the US/world. I dunno. But I wish I was lying, man. I was doing so well at this game and ranked pretty high in the beginning, and now, it is damn-near impossible for me to even get in a game. And even if I do, I can't back out or quit for a few minutes and come back. It won't allow me to get back on and I get that "Beacon Error" or it says the servers aren't available at this time. It's rather depressing and frustrating as well.

maybeWe are also including a fix for multiplayer connectivity and ping time issues, where players are being sent to distant server locations at the expense of performance.

Re: Homefront (360/PS3)
Finally got a chance to fire up the SP on this today, and I must say that my tempered expectations have helped me to appreciate this game a little better. I thought this was a GOTY candidate before it came out, and with that expectation I would have been furious after playing it, but it's pretty good for what it is. Mechanically it's sound, the guns feel good, but it doesn't seem like there is any physics working with the bullets. They seem to go in a straight line and as a result the guns feel super-accurate. The player character feels really slow, but I'm getting used to it.
The worst parts of the game are undoubtedly the graphics, the interface, and the scripting. It probably looks worse than Half-Life 2, and the UI is as inelegant as it can get. Having "Follow" over the heads of the the script-triggerers (as well as a radar pointing you to them) is really awful, and the game is extremely obviously scripted, to the point where I literally thought the game bugged out on me in a couple of places, only to find that I was waiting for the NPC's to come into the scene and trigger the next scripted moment (when climbing down a ladder, and waiting for a door to be opened to the gym). There's no sandboxing at all, as the enemies come from the same places every time and do the same things each time. A glaring example of this is the first time you come upon a machine-gun in a window. If you are quick, you can kill the guy manning it before he can fire off a round. Another enemy enters the room with the machine gun, but instead of maybe using it, he ALWAYS jumped out of the window onto a scaffolding. I replayed this section like 5 times and he did it every time.
I don't have a problem with shooters that have lackluster mechanics but make up for it in ambience and story. In fact, I loved Metro 2033 last year, even though the shooting and sneaking were, in places, broken. This game, though, has so many problems that the issues become overwhelming. I'll probably finish it, as it at least is interesting, and I won't be able to get Crysis 2 for another little bit, but it definitely has been problems in the design.Comment

Re: Homefront (360/PS3)
I've just come to the conclusion that this game is worth a "rent" from Blockbuster or Gamefly...
...but doesn't warrant a purchase.
It's sad, because the "idea" was great for the game, but there are just too many issues (patchable or unpatchable) to make this game worth it - or repeat playability.
The FPS market is as competitive as ever - there are sooo many way one can go...unfortunately, this one doesn't do it for me.

If I were you I would just wait until they get this game fixed. Not sure if all the freezing/system lockups are doing damage to the systems. Just my .2I've just come to the conclusion that this game is worth a "rent" from Blockbuster or Gamefly...

What are the exact issues that can't be patched? The only problems I know of are server issues which will be fixed and freezing which I assume a patch can fix. Neither have affected me fortunately and I think the freezing issue is pretty much a PS3 thing.I've just come to the conclusion that this game is worth a "rent" from Blockbuster or Gamefly...

Re: Homefront (360/PS3)
I finally played through and beat single player. I liked the story, and feel while it's a terrible ending, not near the worst in gaming history. Halo 2 will own that crown for a long time.
Thought it was a cool story, just didn't like it ending like that.
Online is dead to me at this point, it's just not fun anymore unfortunately. I'm as big a fan of this game as anyone, but online makes me annoyed after playing it for 10 seconds on how idiots play this game.Comment

Re: Homefront (360/PS3)
Although I will continue to play online because I like it, I do agree that it gets annoying that the majority of the people online seem to get "Ground Control" and "TDM" confused. Magically I always seem to be put on the team with those idiots. Although I am sure those people will eventually leave for something else, it is still frustrating to continually have idiots ruin the experience. The other day when I was playing, the team I was only about 5 seconds away from winning only to have the other team take us out and control all sectors, now, we still had half a bar lead on the other team so we just go back and take one of the points back and win, no big deal right? Wrong, half of my team is sitting in the spawn doing nothing, allowing the other team to come in and spawn kill, while they are driving their little drones around and we ended up losing. This happened 3 different times and I swear I was about to throw my controller through the TV.Comment

Re: Homefront (360/PS3)
I think that's just the culture of FPS online. I'm sure there are people out there that want to play things as they are intended, but it's hard to do that when you literally wait and wait and wait for a game to connect, and when you do it gives you a message that the servers aren't online. I thought too that about 3 of my friends and I would have been able to mess around with a party but that is giving me issues too.
For me the competition is going to soon beat out Homefront because GameSpot is willing to let me refund the game and put it towards the purchase of another.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: Homefront (360/PS3)
It seems that the online issues have been fixed and I am now VERY glad that I didn't trade this one in. The MP is a complete blast and has been a great, lag free experience with NO connection issues over the last 3 days. I hope more people start picking this one up (or picking it BACK up. Lol) now that the servers seem to be more stable. The online in this game is beast! Will be playing this until Battlefield 3 releases.
Anybody else having a more enjoyable online experience as well now?Go Cavs, Go Browns, Go Tribe! Cleveland Rocks!
