    Inception

Christopher Nolan confirms Inception video game in development

Inception director Christopher Nolan has been considering putting together a video game based on his mind-bending film for a while, but it looks like those plans have gone one level deeper: He now tells Entertainment Weekly that the project is a go. Nolan says he's working with a full team on the game as "a longer-term proposition" and that he's excited to "explore" the medium of gaming by creating a new story set in the world of the movie.

EW suggests an MMO, but we have a better idea (that we wouldn't mind planting in the back of Nolan's brain, if someone out there has the means to do it, wink wink): a spinning top simulator. Call us, Nolan -- we've got Dark Knight ideas, too!

If it's an MMO... no thanks. If it's an actual game where I don't have to deal with millions of nerds who wish they were part of the movie, then yes, this could be cool.

No MMO, please. Anything else, and I will gladly pony up my cash.

        Re: Inception

I could see it working kind of like an inFamous game. Not like with someone who is using pos attraction and all that, but a large, vast, exterior fantasy world that involves some rule bending.

Otherwise, I just hope Nolan has a very good idea that involves infinite uniqueness and is worth the $60 purchase. I hope it's not just another "movie adapted into a game," and that they take their sweet time on making it.

The most MMO I would go is if it has a Heavy Rain kind of spin to it, but even then I don't know if I would buy it.

Ehh I don't know. I would much rather keep this as a movie. It was a terrific movie, but it should stay that way. Not have it's reputation blemished by a bad video game. Come on, you know it's going to be bad.

I hope Christopher Nolan loves that movie enough to keep it from being a steam Pile of dog poop.

I haven't seen the movie (yet) but from everything i've heard about it, making a good video game based on it would be very difficult. In fact, I have no clue how a game based on this movie would work.

I don't think it will be "based on this movie" in the sense that it will concern the same characters and plot and such, but that it will work on a system with certain rules and dream layers.

If the game is bad it will have absolutely no effect on the movie.

It could have an effect on Christopher Nolan's production intentions though, even if subliminally understood. The way I see it, Nolan isn't close to "hack" status yet, and he still seems to be making movies purely because he wants to make it, with money not being a top dollar incentive (no pun intended). He wants to attract audiences who want to see a good story unfold, and isn't about the crapshoot CGI, etc.

Anyway, Inception has been something that was on his mind for over a decade. I hope that if he of all people decided to make a video game, it's for the right reasons in that he didn't tell all that his contorted thoughts on this surrealistic world could come up with, and he wants to implant them in a massively well done video game. If not, then I see it as merely a cash grab, and I don't ever want to see Nolan go down that road. That could leave room for an Inception sequel, or something not quite as original from this man.

If he wants to stay afloat with people for his awesomeness as a writer/director, I think this game will have to be good. That's just how people see things.
