I'm only about an hour into the story; how long did it take some of you to complete it ?

Re: Mass Effect 3
We were supposed to be writing our own stories but it didn't turn out that way. That's the problem as I understand it.I haven't finished the game yet (I think I'm about 2/3rds through now), but this whole "ensure the ending you want" thing is such total BS. It's backwards. Experience the story, make the choices you want to make, and see what happens. You can't have it exactly how you want it, otherwise you might as well go and write your own story.Comment

Re: Mass Effect 3
I like this game a lot better than 2. I haven't seen the ending or anything close to end game, but everything including side mission seems more thought out. Even the retrieve missions for random Citadel folks are handled 100x better than how Dragon Age 2 did. There are still some weak areas, like the scanning and reaper chase, but overall I am hooked on this one more so than 2.
Also, the more I play this game the more I think the DLC was part of the core game and then removed. This quote from before release just seem like a total spin job now. Most DLC characters from Bioware don't interweave with the story as much as the Prothean. He has lines, cutscenes and dialogue during some missions. I guess I am not the only one that thinks this.- The content in “From Ashes” was developed by a separate team (after the core game was finished) and not completed until well after the main game went into certification.

There is also a video on the site that shows a hacker unlocking the Prothean without the DLC installed. Meaning he was originally on the disk.Comment

I kept him from dying for a reason.
(I think so anyway,so many saves...) Reapers wouldn't stand a chance! Nowhere to be found.

Re: Mass Effect 3
Again, keep in mind that I haven't finished the game yet, but to me if you're a storyteller (and the people at Bioware obviously are), you can't "crowdsource" your story. To get upset that you didn't have total control of the story misses the point. you never did. It was always 1 of x number of preset possibilities. If you went in thinking that you could make sure something happened, there always had to be the possibility that that thing might not happen exactly the way you want it. According to what some people are saying, the "canon" ending is tonally consistent with the story as a whole. If that means a player didn't get their story exactly how they wanted it, that's kinda too bad.
In fact, this whole kerfuffle over the ending of the story and the question of "ownership" of the story demonstrates to me that perhaps some gamers are not mature enough or had the lines blurred too much for them when it came to what Bioware was doing. They set out to tell a very specific story, that had some permutations. That story was going to be slightly different for everyone, but it was always going to be the same general story. In ME1 you were going to, in 2 you were going toSpoilerstop Saren, and now in 3 whatever is going to happen is going to happen. The changes along the way, like who survives, or whether species X hates species Y, are big for the player in terms of ownership of the story, but kinda inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Does it really matter if I picked Kaiden or Ashley in ME1? To me, maybe, but to the actual narrative thread? Nah.Spoilerstop the collectors
That being said, those dang Salarians...Spoilerfirst I have to shoot Mordin in the back, now I just had to kill Wrex in the Citadel, all because htey wouldn't help me unless I allowed them to sabotage the Genophage. Of course, I wish I could have gotten away with it and made everyone happy, but that's not always possible, is it?
Here's the thing, too. For the choices to matter, they have to be hard and they have to have consequences. If it was possible to have everything end up with wine and roses, then where's the tension? It's just "pick the choice that makes everyone happy," and move on. It's min/maxing. You can't min/max a story.
Now, if I wind up getting to the end (and I will very soon, I'm about 23 hours in, and just) and I think the ending is tonally inconsistent, then obviously that's a problem. However, if it's just an ending that makes me unhappy, then that might be okay.Spoilergot the mission from the Asari to get the technology that might help me figure out what the catalyst is
Via Kotaku, actually good points made there for once..
"But the development of a creative work cannot be democratized and its revision to appease a vocal minority would surrender the creative freedom people claim to value in food fights over modding, takedown notices, trademark disputes, whatever. This is an expression of the writers and designers at BioWare, and if you dislike it, OK—there is certainly a lot of legitimate criticism of the outcome. But it is their statement, not yours.
What right does someone have to demand changes to the end of a story they did not write—and as this would, assuredly, be released as downloadable content—expect all of that labor for free? Because they'll refuse to endorse a product they've already bought?"Last edited by mrprice33; 03-11-2012, 11:56 PM.Comment

My question is - did anyone read the leaked script that leaked a few months ago? I'm trying to find it online but can't. How different was it from the actual ending?Michigan WolverinesChicago White SoxComment

Re: Mass Effect 3
I'm not really sure where you got the idea that other DLC characters aren't in the game as much as Javik, both Kasumi and Zaeed had lines interacting with characters at every step of Mass Effect 2. As far as it being on the disc, just because part of the content is there, it doesn't mean that all of that was finished or that they just took it out of the game to rip people off. The thing is over 600 mb, it would've been a lot smaller if it was just unlocking something already on the disc.I like this game a lot better than 2. If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Yeah I am now 5 hours in. Taking in this game to the fullest. I used my Sheppard from ME2 and changed his class from Solider to Inflitrator. I have Cryo Ammo maxed out and I love sniping with it. Insane!
I love this game big time. Figure i will finish my first play through within a couple of weeks as I want to do another ME2/ME3 play through with a totally new Sheppard. Now Playing on PS5:
