Apparently if you had the Shepard import bug when first starting the game,

Wow, that's a bug? I thought that was how it was supposed to be.

The ending wasn't terrible. If they would have given us a little foreshadowing and then did a better of giving us some closure based around our choices, it would have been even better.

With that said, Mass Effect 3 is in my top 3 of best games played. Even with a so-so ending.

So amidst all the controversy I've been constantly seeing these past couple weeks, I decided to check back in to this thread.

Wow.

I haven't clicked any of the spoilers of course because I'm still trying to get through my PS3 playthrough of ME2 -- which I've been hustling through just to get to ME3 -- but did Bioware really drop that ball that badly with the ending? Now I'm worried ME3 is going to ruin my experience with the series judging from the reaction to the end.

Should I be waiting to see if they change the ending or if there is DLC (both options being incredibly stupid IMO) to add to the end? Or are people overreacting?

I just really don't want to be disappointed when I finish the trilogy. These games have been way too good and I don't want to be left with a sour taste in my mouth so to speak.

Personally, I don't think the people who are upset are overreacting for the most part. Maybe that's because I'm one of the ones that's upset about it. If I had to guess, I'd say that you'll probably end up as one of those people to.

That said, don't stop playing it. It is an amazing game and definitely lives up to the hype, up until the final moments that is. I don't regret the ride up to that point at all.

Maybe a lot took these endings the wrong way, the beam is reaper tech right? If shep, anderson, and the illusiveman all got close they would go through the indoctrination process. What if that scene was just that process taking place...the catalyst takes form of the child to maybe soften Shepard up and then kind of pushes for shepard to "control them so they live" and makes destroying them seem bad, just like all the people who were indoctrinated began to believe that killing them was wrong.

Illusiveman was already indoctrinated so when he chose to "control them" they made him believe he could do it, which is why he has power in Shep's indoc vision.

Anderson beat his indoc vision by electing to destroy the reapers which is why he is shown shooting the conduit while the catalyst is explaing your options. Also anderson says he came in behind and possibly ended up on in a diff area but when you get there, there's only one way in to the console and thats where Anderson is.

As far as synthesis goes maybe that just a neutral thing where sythetics and people become one so there wont be any need for future conflict... but i dont really know.

Also notice how in the "vision" the choice to keep the reapers alive which goes against your whole purpose and pursuit is "blue" like "paragon" trying to persuade you it's the best choice. The choice to destroy which seems like the best way to do it is in red, which seems like they are trying to say its a bad thing to do or will result negatively like some renegade instances.

With the perfect/best ending where Shepard is breathing or takes a breathe if you chose to "destroy" the reapers and all syntheic life you see that Shepard is lying in a pile of rubble not tech, wires and things from the citadel...but "rubble" which is likely still London. So thats why when the stargazers tells the story(and also hints a lot of the story is missing) of how you beat the reapers and stuff the ending menu notice said you can build off the legacy in furture DLC meaning when you breathe and are alive in the rubble there's more your going to have to do, and that probably have to do with finding your crew again(despite the mass relays being destroyed) possibly against a new organic enemy.

Just my thoughts to help cope with seemingly pointless endings.

*Another interesting point, if the mass relays blew up doesn't the whole systems get destroyed because of the power from the explosion like with the Batarians? (The arrival DLC)

Couple questions about the ending (without spoilers of course):

Is it just one specific ending that people are upset with or does it matter? I remember reading that there's something like 16 different endings, so there's a chance I could still get a "non-controversial" ending?

And does whether or not you're a Paragon or Renegade play a part in getting the ending the majority of people hate?

I'm just trying to prepare myself here if there is a way to get a "good" ending. If there isn't then I guess I'll just chug along through ME2 and eventually get to this and see what all the anger is about.

Paragon renegade has no affect on the ending, and the 16 different endings aren't noticeably different at all.

The ending is pretty bad, but I would still play through it. Everything you experience up to the ending is worth it since you take part in some of the other big stories in the ME universe like the Genophage and Geth/Quarian war. Those storylines are both excellent and worth playing ME3 for. That and the interaction between characters is still top notch.

I think it's supposed to be like that, you can only get weapons fully upgraded on a NG+(import a ME3 save). At least that is how it was with my Sentinel, couldn't go past V on first playthrough and I didn't get any error message when importing my Sentinel(I did with my Infiltrator though).

Question from someone who is halfway through the game:

Does the "galactic readiness" rating only increase if you do the multiplayer portion of the game? And does it decrease at all based on choices, or is it always going to be 50% unless you do the multiplayer bits?

At first I was completely against the multiplayer aspect, but I do enjoy teaming up with people and seeing the different classes in action by people who know what they are doing.

I don't think people are overreacting either, if anything I'd wager the people who are content/fine with it are the ones overreacting re: the people who are upset with it. On several forums I've seen so many ad hominems thrown around, (if you don't like the ending then you're entitled and a whiner, etc) that it would make your head spin.

Now I will say this, ME3 right up to the end was probably one of the best games ever made. However, the way it ends

No closure, no epilogue, throws out more questions than it answers, no climax.

really just IMO ruins the replayability for the entire series to me.

The ending is weird, but up to that point it is about as epic as a game can get. Very odd.

So I just beat the game and the last scene was the Normandy crash landing then the door opened but it did not show anyone stepping out. As soon as the door begin to open the game went to the ending credits. I didnt even get the scene with Sheppard in the rubble on Earth. The last I saw of Sheppard was him shooting the crucible.

Did I not get the final scene with Sheppard laying on the ground and not seeing anyone step out of the Normandy because my ems was to low or what?
