    Re: Assasins Creed Unity

Haven't read through this thread, but man is this game a turd. They straight up broke the free running that made the game great, now it's clunky and even more erratic than ever before. Typically, problems free running in the original were simply your char trying to run up something when you just wanted to run past, is it not the most simple solution to add a button that simply stops the climbing mechanics and just runs? You see a corner coming, hold x while you run past and he won't stick to the wall like spiderman. Having a descent button is the only thing I feel they got right/improved, but that doesn't help that the rest of the movement is clunky at best.

I hate the combat, previous games the combat wasn't stellar but at least it was enjoyable. This feels slow and clunky.

And the map, icon overload. No idea what I should do, it's all just there, and it's all just too damn much.

Combine that with the fact this is one of the glitchiest games I've ever seen, and I just can't do it. Sending the game back to gamefly, sad to see this series sink so low.

I felt the same way about free run, but now that I've gotten used to it, I think it's better. It gives you more control over what to do. I thought it got oversimplified in Black Flag. After getting some serious time in, I'm actually having a better time climbing than in a few games.

As far as combat, I'm torn. It is slow and unresponsive sometimes. But it's also more difficult. It was pretty rare for me to die in the last two games. I never had to plan out any assassinations or infiltrations; if the game didn't explicitly say go undetected, I could pretty much always run in swords waving. So I like that I have to think about it more. But I do wish it was a bit quicker and responsive.

Maybe I've been lucky, but through 6 sequences, I haven't encountered any glitches besides the one time I got stuck between a cart and the wall.

The map is bad and it's always been (except Black Flag where there weren't any big cities).

Free running is terrible, combat is mostly unresponsive, and why the F would they over load the map like that. You can never find your main objective because it is so cluttered. I started having a ton of frame rate issues toward the end of the story, like the last 3 sequences.

I have played every Assassin's Creed game and enjoyed them but this one makes me think I will pass on the next one.

Just an FYI, you can turn off a lot of the icons on the map with the R1, L1 buttons.. If you just want to see missions or whatever. I agree, there are WAAAAY too many icons going on there..

Have to disagree with the bolded, the older games (up to brotherhood) the map was revealed slower, in chunks. Doing everything on the map was never overwhelming, and nothing on the map was beyond your current progression. You got story and side mission in metered chunks that made the entire experience cohesive and excellently paced.

Horrible combat is just horrible combat. Despite the earlier games not being that challenging, they were fun.

I guess I'm not seeing what you're seeing map wise then. I set waypoints for my missions, and never have any problems. I actually like that they didn't put up invisible walls in parts of the city this time around.

There's positives to this game as well. I'm actually enjoying the story so far. Paris is a great city to be set in as well (though all the French names and words make my head hurt). I've had to do those rift sequences twice so far, and one, I actually think they're pretty cool; getting to see Paris in different eras is super interesting to me. And two, they are way less disruptive to the flow of the game than the present day sequences of any of the other games.

I'm enjoying the game and not seeing the issues other people are having.

Combat is easy, just mix up using quick and heavy attacks and when you see the enemy bar blink hit parry. Its not as smooth as Batman, but its not broken

I love the new running style of being able to choose if I want to run up or down by holding X or O.

I don't see frame rate drops very much.

If you map is cluttered then zoom in or use the filter.

                  Re: Assasins Creed Unity

Why is "Way too much on the map.." even a negative? You guys, you can easily filter what you want to see and don't want to see. It's really not that difficult.

I've had fun so far with this game. Yes, some technical issues desperately need to be ironed out patch wise, but so far the game looks beautiful and it's AC, so I'm loving it.

The free running was annoying at first, but I've gotten used to it, and the climbing is actually more fun now, especially when going down.

Combat is, meh, to me. I liked how in past games I could grab an NPC and end them by cutting their throat. Now I just have to dodge, duck and dive to kill them.

Overall, I can see if some people don't like the game so far, and the issues they have are pretty evident and need to be patched ASAP, but it's still a good game and it looks better than ever. France looks awesome.

The negativity in this thread is laughable. I'm average at best skill wise at games and I have had no trouble playing this game; I find it challenging but approachable...in other words, fun.

Typical OS babies, the map is too cluttered. But if there was less to do the game would be branded as "stripped down" and disappointing. The free running mechanics don't read my mind. Its too hard to get to the viewpoints. I guarantee I could find some complaining in the AC 3 or Black Flag threads that viewpoints were too easy to get to.

This community lives to buy games at full retail and then pretend to be massively disappointed by them when the reality is you eagerly await the next installment and put hours and hours into the game you crucify on here. If the game was so bad, there is no way so many people would have progressed so far as to rack up all these complaints.

The game is fun, the story is the best yet in terms of pulling you in and also simply making sense, and the murder mysteries and Paris stories are way more fun than hunting the same lizards and whatnot was in Black Flag. I don't particularly miss the naval stuff this time, as much as I did enjoy it in BF.

Totally agree, Ubi is doing their best to patch the issues, and this game is another home run in my opinion. OS is full of babies for sure. That goes for all games here. But, as typical with any forum, that's why people are here, to complain mostly.

The story has been awesome so far, and the side stuff very good and entertaining. But by all means OS bros, let Kotaku form your opinion and call this game rubbish. Well played.

Props for Ubisoft for the post release support and the offering they put out yesterday. The game looks beautiful but the story did not do much for me and its probably because I am getting burnt out on the series.
