Re: Cities: Skylines
I spent about 20 minutes in my second city and realized I ran out of money without linking my sewage pipe to power, i soon began hemorrhaging money and just had to say good bye to it.
I am about 20,000 people right in the wonderful city of Tipperary, everything is humming along smoothly and now is where I can start to have some fun.My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

Re: Cities: Skylines
Thats the way to go because even if you make a bad area, in a few hours youll get enough money to fix any problems you have. One thing Im dealing with is insane industrial traffic, my industy center is snarled with traffic jams, i tried to fix it with a elevated highway and a "unique" system of ramps but now the highway is hell. Its a monstronsity and it needs to go, I think tomorrow I will just replace with street level oneway roads and hope for the best. I literally just spent 2 hours on this one little section of town but I love it.
the feeling of clearing up a clogged road is awesome. Im only at 20,000 people and just this little section of town is keeping me busy, cant imagine how I will deal with something much bigger. My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

Re: Cities: Skylines
I just went over 20k pop in my starting testing city. I took some screenshots, or thought I did, only to realize I was just quick saving and not taking screenshots. apparently F12 is not the screenshot button in the game like I'm used to with a lot of games on Steam. I'll try to remember to figure that out next time. my city is nothing special, mostly rectangular grids in the current parts that are up.
I did have an Oil Industry district, but they ate up all the oil in their area, so now it's a forestry Industry, which is kind of hard to maintain due to my citizens being too smart.

Re: Cities: Skylines
I'm only at 20k pop, but most of my commercial and Industrial areas are one way roads and it seems to be pretty good. I have about 2 roads with the 6 lane(2-way) roads. Not sure I like those yet. they create street lights, which in this game seems bad, but so far it hasn't cause any major trouble.Thats the way to go because even if you make a bad area, in a few hours youll get enough money to fix any problems you have. I haven't done the one ways in all of my Residential areas, but so far the traffic hasn't been an issue there.Comment

Re: Cities: Skylines
Just hit 32k. Honestly it comes down to how you handle the truck traffic. I've found having two interstates nearby regardless if they are connected goes a long way in handling industrial traffic. Using one ways and filtering traffic between two industrial areas while spreading the outflow to two interstates solved all of my problems.Comment

Re: Cities: Skylines
I had a bridge that crossed a river that was in perpetual gridlock so people from across the river could get to work. Then I had a neat idea. Make the bridge a district and restrict heavy metal, all the trucks now use the highway! Now I just have to get that unclogged, prolly will just have to redo the entire neighbourhood block by block

Re: Cities: Skylines
Well I finally got it in my mind to just start slow and stop worrying about how city looked at beginning.
Going with the Bob Ross method and just let things happen.Joshua:

Anyone know when you're able to unlock industry specializations? I''m trying to develop a lumber industry but the zoning won't work. I'm at at pop. of 10,000.Comment

Re: Cities: Skylines
This game sold 250,000 copies in 24 hours. Not bad for a "niche" game. I really think we will see DLC support for this game that will give this game life for years.
