Re: Mad Max
If anything, im questioning MGSV. The last great pure and true MGS was MGS3. Like a guy said on neogaf, if MGS1 and MGS3 are considered a 10, MGSV is an 8 simply because it's no longer what it used to be. For the last decade, MGS has been all about war and im happy that Kojima is done with MGS because honestly, it's time to move on. Add in the compromised reviews and yeah, to me, that's a far bigger question mark in my mind than Mad Max. With that said, im still buying it but that has more to do with me being a GCU member and getting the game for $38. Worse case scenario, I trade it in and break even so it's worth a shot. If it wasn't for GCU, I wouldn't even care or think about MGSV.Originally posted by Pappy Knuckles
Hey hey hey...no donation from me. Mad Max is my most anticipated game of the year and im more pumped and hyped for it than any other game this entire year. Mordor was a solid game and I think that Mad Max will be better. Plus, Avalanche Studios is a good underrated developer and I have confidence in them.Originally posted by CAMPBLACKMAMBA24
There's car combat which reminds me of Twisted Metal but without the guns. The melee is based on the Batman Arkham series but it's far more brutal and less arcade like in terms of Batman flying around the screen. There's exploration, scavenging and survival elements like needing water and food to replenish your health, RPG elements in regards to upgrading your character and Magnum Opus. There's storms that offer a risk/reward type system and looks great at the same time. There's some plat-forming and minor puzzles. There's boss fights and while I don't know how it's been implemented, the Thunderdome is in the game. Hoping they don't screw that up.Originally posted by Pappy Knuckles
In regards to the worse case scenario, that's how I feel with MGSV.Originally posted by CAMPBLACKMAMBA24
Yeah, MGSV is a bigger game but Mad Max is pretty big as well. The story is said to be around 30 hours with 100% completion being around 80 or more hours.Originally posted by ckarlic
I'll be owning both on release day but it's all Mad Max first.Originally posted by mestevo
Nice. Can't wait to read your impressions.Originally posted by CAMPBLACKMAMBA24

Mad Max PlayStation 4 exclusive content trailer. It's hood ornaments based on the movie Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.

Mad Max
Took about 30 minutes for the game to load but I was able to complete the 1st mission with ease. The controller button layout is a little odd for me and will take a little getting use to but the gameplay is really smooth almost to smooth which is a good thing.
Game has a Capture Mode for those that are into that type of thing.
I've had only 1 encounter where I had to fight some clowns and I punched 1 guy and everything slowed down and the guys head bounced off the wreckage. A sick moment that I enjoyed. If there is a concern I would have it would be that I hope the enemies get stronger as the game goes on
The game has the new feel but I can tell you with 1 hour in I can't wait to see what's in store next.
I will say this game isn't a money grab.
The explosions are awesome!!
I think I'm gonna crash now so I can get a few hours in before work tomorrow and at that point I should have a better feel

Re: Mad Max
The control configuration is supposed to be like Batman which based on gameplay videos it is. Anything specific that makes it feel odd?Originally posted by CAMPBLACKMAMBA24Took about 30 minutes for the game to load but I was able to complete the 1st mission with ease. Great to know about the gameplay being smooth. That makes me very happy as that's really the only thing you wouldn't know from watching videos.
The areas definitely get harder as you progress in the game. I'm assuming that each area has a certain degree of difficulty. What difficulty level are you playing on? That would probably have something to do with it as well.
Just by watching the videos, the explosions are awesome to say the least. I love that it has that dark red and dark black to the fire and smoke respectively. And the explosions will be the same in Just Cause 3 if anyone was wondering.
Definitely not a cash grab. Avalanche Studios is an underrated and underappreciated developer. WB Games is having one hell of a year.
Aside from the controller configuration and difficulty questions, I have just one other question - how's Max when on foot and getting hit and run over by enemy cars? Does he take damage, get injured, etc.? or does he just lose health but stay on his feet? Out of all the videos I have watched, that's really been my only major gripe.
Thanks for posting your impressions. I'm even more pumped than I was before. Hope you keep enjoying the game.

Mad Max
One of my concerns in regards to enemy AI not being more challenging shouldn't be one now that this just popped up on the screen

I haven't been run over yet but he takes damage in fights. The game has thrown some weird stuff at me in terms of traps, driving to certain areas cruising or at least cruising until flying fireballs as well as swinging/hanging fireballs populate the road. Crazy fun stuff and again the controls and player movement are really smooth

Mad Max

Also wanted to mention some of the attention to detail is pretty cool. Smoke coming from the tailpipe when you jump in your ride and as it idles. The heatwave that constantly shows from the hood of your ride just to name a few.
I can't find a difficulty setting
My ride and sidekick. The sidekick is hilarious. Crackhead like lol

Re: Mad Max
I know the big complaints from earlier builds were the buttons were too sensitive when out of the car and having to hold down triangle/Y to enter a car instead of just pressing it. Other than that, controls should be pretty much the norm.Comment

Re: Mad Max
I have about 3 hours logged in and I'm digging it. I was worried that it would be just a cheap knockoff kind of game and I was so wrong. I can't wait to get off work to jump back into this.
The randomness is a constant out in the desert. I had a mission after I got my ride to test out the turbo and I had to ram my vehicle into some other clowns. We ended on the side of a mountains/hill overlooking a cliff. Now I've blown up the car that I needed to and the clowns died in the crash. While in picking up scrap/leftover loot these 3 nuts come from over the hill and start attacking me. Amazing!!

Re: Mad Max
Yeah, I have noticed that in videos when climbing ladders and stuff. Maybe, there's an alternate control scheme in the game. At the same time though, once you do it for a few hours, the user should be okay.Originally posted by ExtremeGamerI know the big complaints from earlier builds were the buttons were too sensitive when out of the car and having to hold down triangle/Y to enter a car instead of just pressing it. Nice. Can't wait. You should check those fireballs. Are the setup in what looks like a torch? If so, those can be destroyed. Tuesday can't come fast enough.Originally posted by CAMPBLACKMAMBA24I haven't been run over yet but he takes damage in fights. Another detail that I saw in videos is that when you're in a sandstorm and the wind is obviously blowing, the fire from the back of the car which im guessing is the nitro boost actually falls to the ground and blows based on the direction of the wind. Little detail but cool nevertheless.Originally posted by CAMPBLACKMAMBA24Also wanted to mention some of the attention to detail is pretty cool. If true, no difficulty level makes me VERY HAPPY.
Yeah, have to love Chumbucket.
Wow....nice. I'm getting overhyped!!! LOL. Seriously, Tuesday can't get here fast enough for me. UGH.Originally posted by CAMPBLACKMAMBA24I have about 3 hours logged in and I'm digging it. Re: Mad Max
both ps4 and xbox one are native 1080P 30fps
And check this..The open world is infinite?
However, that was not the most interesting part of the interview. When Fuller was asked about the map’s size and how long it would take to get from one end to the other, he said, “There are no finite limits to the map… in other words, there is no one side. You can continue driving into The Big Nothing until you get bored or killed. Our tech can support enormous worlds but it is always a case of balancing the density of content and travel distances so that the player feels they are in a rich world.”Comment
