Played Fable a lot more yesterday while watching NFL games...Went with a evil char this time, not a lot different, other than looks, but I'm doing all the quests I can, am hitting more demon doors, etc.

I think it's a good game, fighting can be a bit easy. It's either waves and waves of guys that aren't hard to beat, or a boss that's not too tough. I guess the bigger issue is that you get more than enough money after a little while to fully stock up on Health Potions and Will potions, along with Rez vials, so I never worried about dying ever.

The game is also pretty short. I'm doing most of the side quests my 2nd time through, but I'm not gonna go around and collect all keys, armor, weapons, stuff like that. I'm not that type of gamer, I don't feel the need to beat a game 100%, and it's just not fun to me to be running around just to get a stupid weapon. I guess that might be why I didn't quite get into Morrowind as well, I suppose my type of RPG has a bit more structure, though I wish Fable was a lot longer. KOTOR took a pretty long time to complete (if I remember right), but you can really knock out Fable fast if you really wanted to (skipping a lot of stuff).

some are comparing this to a legend of zelda ,and i would have to disagree with this. The zelda games are bigger, and have a richer and deeper world within each game ( even mayora's mask). The are linear but the gameworld gives you more freedom than fable. I just cant get into fable.

I dont mind restriction, but then give me a good story to pull me in. A reviewer mentioned that the story for def jam:fight for new york is better than fable. I know this is just someones opinion, but the fact that it was mentioned(and someone thought about it) confirms my belief that the story is not all that great.

I actually enjoyed ffX even though some felt it was linear, because the world was so big and the story brought you in. For some reason i didnt get that with FF VII though. heh

I completely agree...I happened to get into the story, but it was over all too fast...FFX was very linear, but fun because there was so much to do. Basically with Fable by the time you really get into the plot it's almost over. A great RPG hooks you at the beginning, or near that, and keeps you for a longer story. I'd be very interested in Fable 2 or whatever they put out, because Fable's a great base point for their next game

Re: What's this? No discussion on FABLE!?

Graphik, sounds like you need Morrowind type games with complete and utter freedom, that's just your type of game. I'll have to give the next Morrowind a try, the controls annoyed me too much on the first one.
Yea, I was looking for another Morrowind when I got Fable and based on all of the previews and such, it was gonna be close. After the reviews came out, my anticipation for Fable had reduced because I knew after that that it was'nt Morrowind. But since I pre-ordered, I just went ahead and picked it up anyway.

Its not just freedom I'm looking for. Its selections, options and decisions I need to make a game worthwhile for me. Fable was just lacking in all 3 areas. Only decisions in Fable were being good or being evil and the reward for picking ethier or was just reconition from NPCs. Its like the whole game revolved around what NPCs thouhgt of you and your appearance. And the NPCs reactions and/or AI is'nt quite as intellegent as advertised. In Morrowind, if a NPC does'nt like you, he wont tell you anything usefull and then you have options to piss him off even more or win/buy him over. Or he'll end up attacking you. Like I said before, in Fable, the NPCs are simply there just so you kill them off ,marry them or impress them. I remember reading "the greatest preview of all time" and he said that no 2 ppls games will look or feel the same. After playing the game I beg to differ.

Even though freedom is probably my main gripe with the game the world is wayyy to small for whats considered as an RPG. You could expect this type of world size from a FPS but never an RPG. I dont think I've played a RPG with such a small world. I cant believe that in 4 years, this is all they could come up with in terms of the size of the game and how many quest lie within it. I'd take a linear and restricted map if it was simply more stuff to do in Fable. I thought the card games would of at least been original. If I wanted to play Memory or Blackjack, I'd pull out a deck of cards in my house. If I wanted go get drunk and puke, I'd go to the liquor store and buy a bottle of Everclear. If I wanted to get married, I'd propose to my gf(who is impatiently waiting might I add) If I wanted to have sex....well, I'd have real sex.

Now if any of those features (marriage, sex, home ownership, card games, even flirting) served more purpose then just being in the game, then we might of had something there. IMO, they seem pointless.

I hate to sound like I'm ruining other ppls fun with this post but I must have read gamefaqs.com all weekend seeing if taking this game back was a mistake. Although I have'nt seen anyone else taking it back (even the EB employee was shocked) I've seen countless number of threads where ppl are completely POed with Peter Mo. I'm not mad at em because I'm sure his vision was altered by hardware restrictions but for this game to have this much hype and then come out as only a spec of what was promised makes me wonder.

Wonder did they take alot of stuff out for Part 2? Did Microsoft make them take alot of content out for fear of pushing the envelope off the table? Or was Peter just BSin and hyping the game up for monetary purposes? I doubt if its the ladder so what is the deal? I find it hard to believe that a game that took 4 years to make come with so little. Something just does'nt add up.

See thats what I mean. If you serve me a linear game then give me tons of other things to do. More quest, more bosses, more mini-games, etc.

I dont like short games period. Even though ppl say Riddick is one of the greatest XBOX titles, I will never know because I hate the fact of knowing the game is gonna end soon just when you get into the story.

Good old pete is a spin doctor when it comes to hyping up his own games. He did it with dungeon keeper, black and white and now fable.

Now some might disagree and consider some of these excellent titles. But you can be sure that Peter M. hyped them up to be the greatest things since sliced bread and canned beer.

Populous was my favorite game made by him. It was a simple 'god' game, and he wasnt saying it was the end all off god-type game.

This is the first I've ever heard of Peter Mo. So you say he does this quite often huh?

I cant remember a game that had this much hype. Brute Force was close but nowhere near the hype that Fable recived. The hype for Fable was just surreal. Almost on the same lvl as Halo IMO.

Can anyone blame the developer of a game for hyping it up as much as he can? What's he supposed to say, "eh, this game kind of sucks" - Peter Molyneux wouldn't look too good as a box quote. It's the media that totally buys into the hype that hurts more...All the previews saying it'll be the greatest game ever and you eventually start to think it. Though previews are always really forgiving, saying pretty much every game has 'promise'

Though previews are always really forgiving, saying pretty much every game has 'promise'

Nah, the difference here is that he starts the hype calling this the end of video games as we know it. Almost as bad as john romero ( actually no, no one is worse than john romero, plus his games suck).

Its one thing to hype up your game cause you feel good about it, its another to go over the top any time they interview on the progress of the game. With fable, you were supposed to do anything and everything, he was quoted as saying this game would revolutionize the way rpg's are played. The world was dynamic and no 2 games would play the same.

This of course was 4 years ago. But whatever. Again, fable is ok to me, but not as good a game , as lets say...ohhhh...i dont know...outrun2!!!!!!!!

It's the media that totally buys into the hype that hurts more...All the previews saying it'll be the greatest game ever and you eventually start to think it.
