Second run is going better, but I'm hitting a wall. I'm losing soldiers left and right and having to recruit rookies and try to promote them. Man this game is brutal with some of the enemies and how they can flank you so easily.

Re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
I was the same way and just lowered the difficulty and it gave me what I wanted. Challenging, but once in a while I'll lose a big time vet and have to re-strategize. I'm almost at end-game, but also on the brink of alien take-over. So to me that's a great balance, I'm at my most powerful, yet impending doom is near.
At first I simply didn't want to lower the difficulty because I'm a seasoned gamer and didn't want to make it easy and throw in the towel- however time is more precious to me now and I have to make some concessions...having said that it's def not been TOO easy.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
I think I'll have to do the same thing. Last night was the end for my 2nd attempt. My guys were getting wounded in battles and new missions were coming up before they could heal so I had to use very inexperienced soldiers on difficult missions. Ended up getting decimated on 4 missions in a row and my ship got shot down and destroyed in my final mission.I was the same way and just lowered the difficulty and it gave me what I wanted. If you have a pc and do not have this game, you are missing out. Console versions are good but the pc version with some mods takes this to a new level. I love it.Comment

Re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
Finished this on PS4 last week (played for about a month solid) and it was even more fun than the first (Enemy Unknown). I had a fantastic time, once I got over the initial hump.
Contrary to what I was reading about load times and 'unfairness' on shooting percentages, I had none of these issues throughout, but I think it was pretty patched up by the time I got it in late November.
I've been lost ever since I finished; no nightly X-com 2 missions to run lolGO 'HAWKS!

Re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
Finally managed to kill all the rulers in a single playthrough - I can see why people weren't very high on that DLC. I don't think the rewards in upgrades are worth the risk of a single enemy wiping your team in a random mission, when it acts after every single thing one member of your team does.
This is the playthrough where I think I'll finally beat this game, btw - I'm into the mid-late game with only 3 casualties (one caused directly by the aforementioned rulers). I finally understand why the difficulty levels are what they are - because even normal can give you a bad time in the beginning if you have bad shooting rolls. Later on the lower difficulty starts making missions pretty easy, even as you encounter all of the various new aliens. They just can't stand up to an upgrade-powered XCOM.
I'm already thinking about a commander-level playthrough when I'm finished.Comment

I agree the rewards weren't good enough for taking on those 50 hit point random bosses. They wrecked more than a few missions of mines.Comment

Re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
Well I beat it. Kind of rushed through the endgame a little too fast and probably wasn't well-equipped enough for the final level, but Phantom Ranger + sniper carries so hard.
I played something of a hybrid between Ironman and total save-scumming - I didn't reload for bad RNG (I missed so many > 80% shots in this campaign), but I did for bad movement while undetected (i.e triggering multiple groups of enemies at the same time). Doing that can wipe my squad and I really didn't want that happening on my first time going all the way through the game.
I tried playing Commander after that but I think I'd have to play it pretty much the same way - the difficulty means most everything you do has to be perfect and even then you'll still take losses. I just don't think I can enjoy that difficulty yet. So I'm playing Veteran again, but this time with straight Ironman. And I can tell that going through the game once has made me better, because I just beat the Blacksite mission with only the Squad Size 1 upgrade, and no weapon/armor upgrades. Had one die in that mission but I managed to evacuate them and save the equipment (Viper Rounds from a random scan). So far my only issue in this campaign is that I can't keep Rangers alive - had 3 of them die already...lol.
And I'm not even activating the Rulers in this playthrough. Screw that.Last edited by bcruise; 01-12-2017, 05:37 PM.Comment

Re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
Long War 2 is out on the Steam Workshop. It's free.
The first one was completely overwhelming for me and I'm sure this will be too, but I am downloading it because it functions as a regular mod, unlike LW1. That means I don't have to do anything special to go back to vanilla - just un-check the LW-related mods on the game's launch screen.
Also, having 10 soldiers in a mission (along with however many aliens) will probably melt my PC.Last edited by bcruise; 01-19-2017, 08:09 PM.Comment

Back from the dead...
"War of the Chosen" expansion announced at E3, out on August 29 for all platforms:

This sounds like an Enemy Within-scale expansion and not just an add-on type thing like the Alien Hunters thing was.Comment
