Re: Do you ever feel like you are too old to compete in games online?

At 31, I don't feel that I'm too old to compete in online games. I've been gaming my entire life and I've always been pretty good. It's just that I now I game more for the experience. I just want to immerse myself in whatever I'm playing and enjoy it. If that means playing 2K on rookie or pro, ok. Playing AC Orgins on easy, cool. I just want a fun game experience. I could "cheese" or flock to the OP weapon or tactic on a game and have a good record but I don't enjoy that. I remember playing the old Maddens and my friends and I would just run 4 verts; last man with the ball won. That was cool, but it wasn't fun after a while. instead of having what I feel would be mostly a frustrating experience online I just enjoy offline. But it's not because I feel I can't compete. Competing just isn't the most important thing to me.

Being good in online games requires practice, I just don't have that kind of time anymore. I play about 4-5 hours during the week and 4-5 on the weekends. With so many good single player games I have to pick, maybe I'll get back into the next battlefield but for the time being it's single player for me.

For me I think "too old" means what comes along with my current age. I'm 45, married and have 4 boys. When you factor in all the activities and responsibilities the day brings, and then my evenings that usually wrap up with a drink with my wife, let's just say I'm not up to speed with the younger guys. Last night I fell asleep playing COD about 15 minutes in.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Yeah, like lots have said it's more time vs. age. With kids and other things I have to do my gaming time goes down, so I can't dedicate myself like I used to.

I think I could be fine in online gaming, but the sacrifice to family and other stuff isn't worth it

The wife and I still haven't made the jump to have kids yet in our early thirties, so I typically get some time on the weekends for gaming. I do find myself less interested in a lot of the games being released. I still love my sports games, but then it's mostly just non-sci-fi type FPS (ARMA, Battlefield) or GTA/Red Dead. One of the things I've noticed with the FPS, aside from the ridiculous micro transaction movement, is the younger ones now research every little trick and glitch in the game. I'm just trying to jump on, work with my team, and win an objective. A lot of these younger gamers are trying to figure out how to cheat the game to make their stats look better than they really are.

Same for me. Im 40 married with 2 teenage boys and just dont have the time to get "better" in online games such as Battlefield and COD. I tend to play those games for the single player campaign and the story. This year I cut back on my sports gaming ( I used to get madden, NBA 2k, NHL and MLB The show every year) but this year I just made the vow to stick with MLB the show and I now have more time to dive into other games I would have normally not had time to get into (ie. Horizon, Assasins Creed, Dying Light) . I found that sports gaming was a huge investment. That is why I just stuck with MLB the Show as baseball is my favorite sport.

But like some have mentioned in the past, when I do venture online with random people, it is pretty ugly and discouraging. I do enjoy getting in a private lobby with a bunch of like minded people and tend to have fun but for the most part I stick to the offline single player component of a game.

Do you ever feel like you are too old to compete in games online?

As someone stated earlier, I think it's more about not having as much time to play now as opposed to a kid free of responsibilities at least for me. I'm not old at all at the age of 23, but I find myself not enjoying shooters as much because I just don't have time put in to play as well as I used to when I was say 13. This is evident to me if I were to look at my battlefield stats. Everything gradually decreases as the years pass on, less hours played and worse k/d. I would play on my PS3 as soon as I got home from school to midnight just about every night. That one night of game time is about equal to what I put in during the entire week day, today.

I have no doubt in my mind if rocket league was out when I was 13 (I did not know about SARPBC) I would have hit grand champion in half the timespan it took for me to hit champion now.

I don't think I'm too old, I just flat out stink at online games.

I'm 40... and the answer for me is YES with all games besides sports for me. Any time of shooting game I always have sucked though. The last ones I ever was very good at online was Socom games. I never been good at any shooter online since then.

but in sports game no. I compete very well online and don't have to play non stop like the kids do. and I am ever the top of the rankings? well no but I use to play for top 5 club in NHL goalie in EASHL thru 09- 11. I make it to div 3 in FIFA seasons usually but right now I"m currently in PES 2018 div 8 and getting relegated. lol

i like to think i still can compete though online in any sports game i buy. all other games i have 0 chance

What exactly are we thinking happens when we get older? It's not like we're 83, playing with our stroke side.

True statement here. Having said that, I'm 61 and play COD MP, always have played that series and what I have noticed is that my hand / eye coordination has fallen off a bit. I can still hold my own but not quite as good as I did in COD 2, what was that, 12 Years ago?

I enjoy playing and feel it keeps me mentally sharp as well as maintaining my hand / eye coordination. I'll still be playing at 83, that is if I haven't stroked out. Wife continues to say she married a 12 year old.

Hey what am I supposed to do, sit in my easy chair and what re-runs of All In The Family?

Re: Do you ever feel like you are too old to compete in games online?

I turned 50 this year and what I think it is is, as we gamers get older, life gets in the way of playing a game for hours on end. When I was in my 20's I can remember playing all night ti'll 4-5 in the morning. Now with kids, wife, work etc... I maybe get 7-8 hours a week with a game instead of playing every night like some of these MP players do and knowing every part of a map like they do.

So I would say we're just not up to speed with some players and therefore it seems like we are inferior players compared to them and can't compete. Just my 2 cents.

Been playing video games since '75 and will play till the Good Lord calls me.
