Game was a 6.5 or 7/10. Just mediocre in too many ways for me. Not enough combat and the gunplay could have been better too. Weak story. Felt like the B team made it as opposed to a true AAA title.

I think if you love exploration you will score it higher. Just a mediocre game all around for me though. I was just hoping to finish it so I can trade it and get some money back by the end.

It was very linear. Unfortunately I downloaded it and can't trade it in lol

Average game for me. If I play it I'll stick with it for a day, but otherwise I can go 2-3 weeks without playing it and feel no different.

For me they go in order. The first was really good, like close to 9/10 for me. The second was fun but disappointing with too many snow environments and closed fighting quarters. It tried a bit of an open world deep that didn’t work well imo. I’d give it 7.5-8/10. Still solid. This last one gets maybe a 6.5. A disappointment for me without question and I have zero desire to play it again. Game needed more combat. Far too quiet and stealth based with a weak story. I think it balanced the open world with linear storyline better than the second one. If you like exploration you will enjoy this final one more. If you like combat and gun play stay away. My two cents.

Jury is split here on OS. I think the Metacritic scores were in the 70s.

                1. Rise of the Tomb Raider
                2. Tomb Raider
                3. Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

                In that order for me.

I’m only part way through Shadow since I haven’t had much gaming time of late. So take this with a grain of salt. But right now I’d go:

                  1. TR
                  2. SotTR
                  3. RotTR

                  I love all three though.

Just finished the story... And overall a let down for me. This was my first game of the series and overall the story felt short and without much else. Granted, it says im only 54% completed, but I really have no desire to do anything else with this.

It definitely is and will be a great game for some, but personally I wish I went elsewhere with my money. Spider-man, for example, was naturally just much more enjoyable.

SOTTR (9.0/10), RISE (9.0/10, my 2016 goty by default) and TR 2013 (8.5/10).

Rise was excellent and Shadow is basically a copy but with a better story, antagonist, ending boss fight, etc. Also prefer the jungles over the snow. Only reason Rise was my 2016 goty was because Uncharted 4 was a disappointing 8.5/10 for me while Gears 4 would have been a 9.0/10 and my goty but the mech garbage at the end ruined that for me to where I decreased the score to a final 8.5/10.

I enjoy the stealth of this game, and I thought the Tsunami was one of the coolest video games I have ever seen.

One of the things that was getting a little old with the other Tomb Raider games were the insane pure firepower battles. I think in the original reboot Lara killed 500 of those undead creatures on the island in the second to last battle, and on Rise what was it, 600 Trinity dudes getting off that chopper? It was a bit ridiculous.

It's also a little fun because my kids are old and good enough to help me solve the puzzles now. I don't have to worry about that nonsense any longer.

I'm still chugging along. I guess I'm probably somewhere past the halfway point.

                          Spoiler

I'm still enjoying the game, but I definitely can see some of the criticism people have levied here. Had a mission last night where no matter what I did, I couldn't avoid being detected. So it wound up being me with my axe against a bunch of gun-toting bad guys, and I couldn't pick up a gun to help myself out. I finally gave up and just sprinted toward the next stage. Of course, the bad guys just stopped following me, I guess.

And there's been a few scenes that I thought would have been emotional that they just kind of glossed over.

Finished the main story tonight/this morning. I was further along than I realized when I posted last night.

It's about on par with Rise for me. Graphics are better and I prefer the jungle environment, but I like the story in Rise better. The original reboot is still the best, IMO, but I enjoyed all three games.

Now I have to go back to all three games to try to get 100-percent completion.

Re: Shadow of the Tomb Raider

While the shooting mechanics and gunplay is better in Rise, Shadow basically improves on everything else. Better stealth, bow and arrows is still great, varying levels of difficulty for combat, exploration and puzzles which is amazing, the better story and easily, the better final boss fight and ending. Also prefer the jungle over the snow. Loved all the tombs as well.

When you really compare Rise to Shadow, they're literally nearly the same game. Same setup, same collectables, varying maps, tombs, crypts, etc. The only true differences is that one is in a snowy winter while the other is in a summer jungle, one has better stealth while the other has better shooting mechanics and gunplay. Story and characters could go either way but the ending was far better executed in Shadow than Rise was for me. In Shadow, I became more interested in the story because it became better where as in Rise, it declined throughout the game.

With that said, I enjoyed the entire trilogy but I am hoping that SE gives the franchise a break until PS6/Xbox 5.

Re: Shadow of the Tomb Raider

So with the 16-cent Redbox rental day (plus one cent in tax), I decided to give this one a go. Only got about an hour or so with it which wasn't much obviously, and I honestly would still be playing if it didn't frustrate the hell out of me.

Admittedly I selected the hardest most without reading all of the things that is in it/not in it, because if I recall correctly the previous game was the same in the two hardest modes with the hardest not allowing saves outside of camps, so I was fine with trying that.

What I didn't know is that survival instinct would also be disabled, and I also didn't know that if you die, you pretty much go all the way back to the beginning of that portion of the map. No checkpoints whatsoever, and I mean I must have gone about twenty minutes before those dumb spike things closed in on me, and I waited about a minute for the game to load, only to appear so far back.

Not only that, but it didn't recall any relics or items that I had collected along the way. ROTTR didn't seem to have a problem collecting those things. Maybe these are the parts about the highest difficulty, and if so I should read up on it more... but again, ROTTR's differences in modes literally just had to do with camp saves, and it looked like that was the case here as well.

Anyway, I understand the "cramped" and "linear" feeling others were talking about. They have beautiful landscapes and scenery with not much to explore. Unfortunately also after playing so much RDR 2, Lara's movement just felt too light. This would have even been the case compared to ROTTR as well, because I never remember her being quite this nimble.

I appreciate that once I was able to use my weapons that it seems I had a full loadout and already can use rope arrows, potentially craft fire arrows, etc. It makes it seem like the character has "remembered" some things from just a couple of weeks back in ROTTR. She also got way hotter in her figure over that short amount of time too lol.

Anyway, I guess I got my less-than-quarter's worth. Once I found out that I was all the way back to pretty much the beginning though, I just said screw it and turned the game off. I think I was right next to the nearest base camp as well too, but didn't bother trying to dodge that one trap. Ah well, next time I guess... don't know when that will be, though. I can wait picking this one up I think.
