I think most would agree that the engine needed to be scrapped. It's 14 years old if not more. A new, updated engine is what we all wanted. An always online Fallout that removes all human NPCs is not. I'm fine with spinoffs if they don't really interrupt the progress on the next major title in the series, but right now it's not looking like we're even close to a Fallout 5 within the next 3-4 years, so when this is the only Fallout game we'll get in 7-8 year span, it's hard to not complain when it isn't even close to what brought everyone to the franchise.
Like I have stated already, I'm not writing it off. I'll continue to follow the information flow, but I honestly don't see how this game will be a major hit for the franchise based off of the base that plays it. Hopefully this is their way of testing out new features that are going into 5 and are going to implement what is successful into FO5 in what is hopefully on a modern engine.
