But last week I did a complete 180° from my previous plans and inspired by the current Canadiens run, I got myself NHL21 for just under 20€ from PS Store. My advantage is that unlike Madden, I never been to NHL forums so I have no idea how good or bad the game is supposed to be, and I don't care. Just set my sliders how I saw fit, created a San Francisco expansion team and that just about covers my sports gaming needs for now.

Still undecided about which non sports game I roll with next, though. Leaning strongly towards the Metro series, but we'll see.

Same here. I never frequent the NHL forum. Last game I actually put in a real serious franchise run in that series was way back on NHL 11

Running a Panthers franchise and loving it. Set up my sliders and have not looked back.

NHL 21 is simply a ton of fun and has a lot of depth in franchise/GM mode.

As someone who has no "natural" connection to any place in the US / North America (except for the Bay Area, but that is another story), and thus can easily set up various franchises from Montreal to Green Bay to Minnesota (T-wolves) to Huntington (Marshall University) without any remorse of skipping a local franchise I would otherwise certainly have rooted for, the airiness with which you (almost always) choose a Florida franchise always catches me by surprise, until I finally manage to figure out why. Re: 2021 Gaming Plans

Since finally getting an Xbox Series X on January 4th and PlayStation 5 on February 14th, I have played a decent amount of games thus far as I work my way through the minimal backlog that I currently have based on the Nov/Dec 2020 games.

        CURRENTLY PLAYING
        - Assassin's Creed Valhalla (Digital/base game. 15 hours in. Just playing the main story campaign. Just so many gameplay/combat elements that I don't like. Wish the setup was the same as Origins/Odyssey.)

        COMPLETED
        - Gears 5: Hivebusters (Game Pass Ultimate/expansion. Really enjoyed Hivebusters as it was what I played and completed first on the Xbox Series X. An 8.5/10 overall for me and im hoping Gears 6 follows Hivebusters and goes back to being more linear than more open world/wide linear like Gears 5 was.)
        - Watch Dogs Legion (Disc/base game. Overall, a good 7.0/10 but still prefer the original 2014 Watch Dogs the most. I want my vigilante protagonist back. The open world of London with Ray Tracing looked great but wasn't into this game all that much. Played through the story and that was basically more than enough for me.)
        - Immortals Fenyx Rising (Digital/base game. Loved Immortals as it's easily my BOTW killer. Gorgeous open world, excellent combat and gameplay, good story and characters, excellent puzzles and vaults. Great music too. Love this game!!! Hoping it becomes Ubisoft's next franchise. Overall, a 9.0/10 and still the best game I have played on the current generation consoles.)
        - Tom Clancy's The Division 2 (Replay. Base game/episodes. Originally played at launch on PS4 Pro. Loved The Division 2 and didn't want to continue playing Valhalla after Immortals as I wanted a shooter to play so I replayed the base game and episodes. Still an excellent 9.0/10 for me.)
        - Marvel's Spider Man: Miles Morales (Disc/base game. PlayStation 5. Very few negatives in this game. Wish the story was longer because I really enjoyed it, Miles and all the characters. Side Content still leaves a lot to be desired. Overall, a great 8.5/10 game and im very much looking forward to Spider Man 2.)
        - Tom Clancy's The Division 2: Warlords of New York (Replay. Expansion. Loved the expansion. Not much else to say. LOL. Great 8.5/10 for me.)
        - Gears Tactics (Game Pass Ultimate. A great turn based strategy RPG with a very good story and characters. Good combat system but having the side missions be mandatory was a complete turn off for me. Prefer Mutant Year Zero and Kingdom Battle over Gears Tactics when it comes to the turn based strategy RPG's that I have completed. Overall, an 8.0/10.)
        - Immortals Fenyx Rising: Myths of the Eastern Realm (Digital/expansion. Really enjoyed this expansion and very happy that Ubisoft considers Immortals to be a franchise for them. Overall, an 8.5/10.)
        - Outriders (Digital/base game. Loved Outriders so much that I played through it three times throughout the month of April. Great 8.5/10. Hoping for an expansion later this year.)
        - Resident Evil VIII: Village (Disc/base game. Completed the game in four days after starting on release day. Great 8.5/10 game overall and enjoyed it more than RE VII but the last third of the game falls off compared to the first two thirds of the game but it is what it is. Enjoyed it for what it was. Looking forward to REmake4 in 2022/2023.)
        - The Division 2: Season One (Replay. Completed it back in May. Really enjoyed it.)
        - Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (Disc/base game. PlayStation 5. Great game with a solid and enjoyable story and characters. Excellent combat and gameplay. Superb visuals. 8.5/10 overall for me.)

        ON HOLD
        - Bright Memory (Digital/demo. This is basically a demo that sets up Bright Memory Infinite which is what im waiting for before playing.)
        - Cyberpunk 2077 (Digital/base game. Simply, im waiting for the current generation upgrade.)

        UPCOMING
        - Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Wrath of the Druids (Digital/expansion.)
        - Immortals Fenyx Rising: The Lost Gods (Digital/expansion.)
        - The Ascent (Game Pass. Releases July 29th as an Xbox One/Xbox Series/PC exclusive. Think Ruiner mixed with Diablo mixed with Alienation set in a cyberpunk universe. Very much looking forward to this game. Looks great!!!)
        - Ghost of Tsushima (Replay. PlayStation 5. Digital. This will be my late August/September game mainly due to the Iki Island expansion. Hyped for the expansion and to replay the game which I rarely do.)

Overall, im loving the Xbox Series X. Loading times are insane. Games all look great and play even better at 60FPS. Very much looking forward to the games listed above and the rest of 2021 as im expecting a real good second half. Thus far, this generation has been great for me.

So after buying the Sony A80J OLED, I redownloaded a lot of games to test it out on it. Look way better on an OLED, true blacks is something to behold with your own eyes. RDR2 even with it's bad HDR, look way better. The Last of Us 2, Detroit Become Human, GT Sport, Forza 4 Horizons, Forza 7, the last 3 Assassin's Creeds, last 2 Gears of War look AMAZING in OLED. The ones that support it, look amazing in Dolby Vision too.

          Far as new games:

          Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2
          Moto GP 21
          Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart

Then the sports games: MLB The Show 21, NBA 2K21, FIFA 21 still in the rotation.

Happened to me as well over the weekend with The Outer Worlds.

I strongly recommend The Outer Worlds. Can't get my hands off it. I sure spent at least 8-10 hours on it already and still didn't left the first planet / location. Just pure fun left and right.

The fact that your character does not talk and

are the only two things I wish they had done differently so far. But the game still has a reputation of being extremelly well written and I can easily echo that sentiment despite my character not voice-acting herself.

Two very different types of games here....

                    Andromeda...

There's a TON of hate out there; mainly because of a very rocky release and insanely high expectations. There's a lot of side questy stuff to do (it's more "open world"-esque than other ME games), and you have a number of upgrade options for your character. I really like the combat in the game - there's a nice fluidity to it and IMO, it's the one area of the game that excels over the original trilogy. It feels more like a shooter vs an RPG with shooting mechanics.

The story and characters...this is where the game gets some hate. If you compare it to the iconic original trilogy, it's nowhere near as good. But, even then, it's still a step up from many shooters/open-world games.

That game is cheap enough these days (especially during sales) that it is well worth checking out.

                    The Outer Worlds....

Totally different vibe to this. It's really more of an RPG with shooter mechanics than a shooter. Your character's abilities impact how effective you are with different weapons (so it does have a bit of an "dice roll" feel to it - especially early). If you've played the Fallout games...you'll have a good sense of it.

I got distracted during my initial playthrough of this and never finished it (I've never quite finished Andromeda either TBH - not a knock vs either....I'm just bad about finishing games). But, storylines, player choices, characters and lore are all very solid.

In short..Andromeda feels more like a shooter with more of a story/character dev than something like Doom. The Outer Worlds is more of a true RPG (almost like a cross between Fallout and KOTOR).
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

Before you play Andromeda, if you go that route, play the Mass Effect trilogy first. Lots of background and lore, and damn fine games to boot (even if the mechanics of the first one aren't that great).

Outer Worlds had promise but I'm not a big FPS guy which dragged the experience down. Role playing was top notch, and they have the "dumb mode" for major laughs if you make your character low intelligence. I never finished it.

I can kinda see it both ways.

Yes, having played the original trilogy, you know the lore. But...how many of those side conversations in Andromeda did you skim through early on (I found myself going, "Yeah, I know all about _____"? I do think that Andromeda does a nice job of "catching people up" that had not played the original trilogy (via both conversations and the impressive Codex that this series has always had).

There were certainly moments that hearkened back to the original series, but almost in an "easter egg" sort of vibe. I'd almost compare it to someone who has never seen a Star Wars film watching Rogue One. It's a separate story with a new cast of main characters; with just a smattering of familiar faces.

The one downside of playing the original trilogy after Andromeda is that ME1 (even the remaster) is going to feel even more 'dated' gameplay-wise (though the story makes up for it and ME2/ME3 feel a lot more modern).
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

NCAA Basketball 10 - I finally picked this game up on EBAY at a bargain (under $40 bucks which is a bargain these days). I watched a ton of youtube videos on this and love what I saw and I simply moved on from NCAA 2K7. I just do not enjoy the gameplay anymore. It has not aged well. And it was time to retire her (Will never sell it though lol). This EA game is damn good. Presentation is off the hook good. And Dynasty Mode is solid enough. I don’t know how I overlooked this one.

NBA2K11 - A timeless Classic that I still enjoy to this day.
Fight Night 4 - I hope and pray this new Boxing Game coming soon is the real deal. In the meantime we play historical matchups all the time on FN4 which is still holding up for some fun.

I always felt like this was a vastly underrated game. The presentation, like you said, was top notch. A shame EA never built off this for college hoops.

Even worse is EA abandoned this game and never fixed the freezing issue on the 360.

The dual-Network presentation was awesome and gameplay (when it didn't freeze) was a lot of fun, like NBA Live 10.
