And then instead of saying, I'll call you back, she stays on the line and my wife has to tell her each item we are eating.

And god forbid we go out somewhere and haven't told her about it. We'll come home and the answering has like 30 messages. "Where are you? I'm calling 9-1-1. Your not answering your cell phone! I'm coming over!"

It's annoying but kinda funny at the same time. It's like she's keeping a daily journal of our lives.

Does anyone else have a mother-in-law like this?
I started a similar thread in the old Everything Else forum the day that it was taken down... My mother-in-law isn't bad, but it's the rest of my wife's family that is annoying... I have never seen such a bunch of non-independent, no backbone having people in my life... When we lived in New York, most of my wife's family was within a 10 block radius of the house... We'd be getting ready to go out somewhere, and someone would call... "What are you doing?" "Getting ready to go to the mall..." "Oh, I wanna go to the mall, too!!!" And what should have been a quiet afternoon for two at the mall turns into a funking field trip for the Vega family...

That was one of the reasons we moved to North Carolina instead of Lakeland, FL, where all her family migrated to....

I remember one time my wife and I were discussing our families, and she had the gall to tell me that her family was "closer" than mine, cause they were always in each other's houses... I told her that just because her family was always around each other, doesn't necessarily mean that they're close... It just means that they're always in someone's business... I told her my family is probably much closer than hers, in terms of genuine affection, because since we're spread out, when we do get together, the love is real, and not some manufactured crap.

Yeah, they're a trip... It's funny, my wife wouldn't have minded moving to Florida to be closer to her family, and we actually scouted Jacksonville (it was acceptable because it was like a 4 1/2 hour drive from where her family is at... But once I got the job offer in Raleigh, and we moved here, she's been able to see the needless drama that goes on from everyone being on top of one another... So she's glad to be here, and would prefer that everyone else stay down there...

I think that's the number one cause of problems in the family, the interference from in-laws... When we first got married, we had quite a few battles over her family's constant presence... I'd come home from work, tired as a runaway slave, and here I've got three other hens in my house just gossiping and talking sh!t... And they wouldn't know when to leave. So I had to start walking around with a screw face, letting them know that I was ready for them to leave... Later on, my wife started telling me that they would call first, to see if I was there before they came over, and then they'd rush out before I got home... I was like, "so what's the problem with that? That's the way it should be, anyway..." Now my aggravation is someone calling for 30 seconds, just to see what we're doing.... I was inclined one time to answer that question with, "Minding my business, you should try it sometime...."

My ex-girlfirends mom wanted to hook up with me. She'd always send me text messsages about how she wants me, etc.

                      Yaaaaahhhh, kinda weird.

Then you get to be annoyed by the phone ringing.

Who said anything about a phone? These people would just show up unannounced... I'd be all for not answering the phone, but my wife would feel bad... One time when my oldest son was a newborn, we had a hard time getting him to sleep at night... So I told my wife to sleep when he was asleep, during the day... Only problem was, her idiot aunt and cousins, knowing the sleep situation, keep showing up unannounced, and my wife didn't have the heart to tell them to split... So one day, her cousin shows up unannounced and rings the doorbell, while my wife is asleep... I don't bother opening the door, I just leave her dumb behind out there... A couple hours later, she calls the house, and tells my wife she was outside, and my wife asks me if I heard the doorbell... "Yeah, I heard, but I wasn't gonna wake you up for that... She should know to call first..." Yes, the courtesy call is a very foreign concept to these folks....
