Advice needed in regards to sold items.

This may be a bit long so I apologize in advance but am running out of ideas and wanted to hear what some people on here have to say.

My Father had some furniture listed in the local paper here in Oregon, received a call from someone claiming to be in NJ and they wanted to buy it. They both arrange payment, prospective buyer explains that he has a company that will move the furniture and asks him to hold on to the furniture for him and offers to pay an extra fee for this service, father agrees. Let me begin by saying it came to nearly 600.00 for the furniture, today we receive two mail orders, drawn from Walmart for the amount of 950.00 each including no instructions on how he is going to be getting the furniture, so he has now given us 1900.00 for used furniture. Upon looking at the money orders, since my Father doesnt exactly pay attention at times, I notice there is an address written on the money orders and that address is in Arkansas, he said he was in New Jersey, and to top it off it was sent using Royal Air Mail, which I thought was only in Europe. Is there even a Walmart in Europe? I know they were talking about it years ago but I cant find anything stating it has happened yet.

Again, any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated, this is starting to smell like a scam of some sort but with him not wanting the furniture right away that gives it time to clear or not with the bank so Im not sure where the angle is with this, unless of course hes going to use our address to rob us but I figure that is rather unlikely.
