Well I've never posted in this thread, but from other posts you know I'm a member!

Over the last year and a half:

              Xbox 360
              50" Sony XBR1
              Onkyo 990THX Home Theater System
              PS3
              Wii
              57" Mitsubishi WD-57831
              15+ Blu-ray discs
              20+ games
              too many DVD's to count
              Microsoft Zune

Anyway, I'm into technology BAD! However shameful it is, I can't help myself. My wife can't stand it (though she DOES enjoy the Wii and our family movie nights) and I'm trying to get better...honestly! I mean we are going to exchange the now defective XBR1 hopefully for a more manageable 40" or so plasma or LCD (as soon as Best Buy approves the exchange).

Anyway, I feel the pain most of you guys here experience, but damn, don't we have some DAMN nice media or family rooms

EDIT: While it's not "plug-in" technology, we also bought an '06 Toyota Highlander Hybrid over that span as well. Of course that debt, coupled with school loans, will still be around the next couple years

Nice haul, but I don't envy your debt at all

At this point it's mostly our combined school loans, the house, the car, and two credit cards (both under a grand).

What sucks is while some have had issues with console reliability, since college I haven't been able to find a TV that lasts. I've gone through five with Best Buy/Circuit City warranty swaps over the last four years...I'm HOPING that trend is ending (so really, we never paid the FULL price on the TV's, only the upgrade fee ).

I've had the same TV for going on 4 years now. My living room TV is 5 years old. Won't be swapping for a long time.

Well, finally broke down and got a new receiver. Got the Sony 910, watched my first Blu ray with uncompressed 5.1 sound, and WOW. Got a new speaker set up as well, nothing too fancy, they are the Sony flat speakers.

                      http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SA-FT1H-P...7621703&sr=8-1

They sound good, are easy to hide, and are much smaller than I expected. But the sound is a lot better than my old Panasonic speakers.

Got it all for under $650 brand new including tax and a home XM radio for the receiver. I ended up playing HH Gregg, Circuit City, and Best Buy against each other.

Those new receivers are sick...I would love one with HDMI switching for the uncompressed sound (and more HDMI inputs are always a good thing).

                        Enjoy it!

Thanks, yeah it has 3 HDMI inputs, which was huge for me. My PS3, 360 and cable box all hooked up. The 910 also takes any input and outputs it at HDMI, so I have one cable to my TV, and a ton to my receiver. It's nice not having to change inputs to watch a movie, TV or play the Wii.

                            That is a cool feature.

That is a sweet receiver. I see you can get a pretty good deal on Amazon right now on that as well...

Do you see any disadvantage of pairing 5.1 speakers with the 7.1 reciever?

I'm using 5.1 speakers, mainly because I don't see the benefit of 6.1 or 7.1 speakers. Sounds amazing to me in 5.1, I'm happy.
