Re: BA in History
Where in Cali are you. San Jose?
I would love to teach in Cali, but not at an inner school. Ive heard people saying there is demand for teachers there and I even have a buddy whose aunt teaches there and shes from here, but I dont know. But the Standard of living is alot higher than here, thats for surePSN: Peji911Comment

Re: BA in History
I nearly went to get my MBA, but I decided I'd be better of with a JD instead. Now that I have a semester to go, I wish I did the JD/MBA.Comment

The best teaching job is at J. Hall. Three reasons. One, you have probation, if a kid is being a butt, you send him to his room. Second, no parents, so I don't deal with any parent, ever! lol Last, the kids average stay at the Hall is 20 days, so turn over is huge. I love it. Also, it is year round so in the summer I get two equal checks for the 2 month I work in summer. I am only contracted to work 180 days, anything after that I get paid separate. I have it set up where I have a one week off every other month. Plus you have a 2 week break for Christmas and one week break for Easter, plus all these little holidays. I absolutely love it. I do work with Thugs though, but it is great. You get them in a control environment and they are actually pretty cool kids.Comment

Re: BA in History
I was actually thinking of that. But I hate Canadian law ( I definately prefer American).
Plus, I have no info on it. ie: When it starts; What I have to study to get into law school; etc.
Plus, I dont want to go to school for another 5-8 years, and on top of that, I have no history within a law office. Friends of mine who have taken it have volunteered at law offices to get a feel for itPSN: Peji911Comment

How would I go about into looking into that? Also, do many women work doing that? The best teaching job is at J. Hall. Three reasons. Finally, how are you rated as a teacher? I mean, what do you have to do with them and then how do the admins know you're doing a good job?PSN: Peji911Comment

Re: BA in History
Yeah we have women teachers. They do really great, but it takes a special person if you ask me. It is a little different. You are really not judge on the kids performance. Mostly just being there and not always calling in sick. And bascially be able to handle you class. You have to be in control. Here is the great part. You work 7 hours days and have the kids for only about 4 and 1/2 hours. The first block is 1 and 1/2 hours and it is math and PE. Then the second block is 1 and 1/2 and you teach English which is called CBL. It has lesson plans already on line. It is great. If you want to check out the CBL, go to Santa Clara university web site. Do a search on that site on CBL. It is great, also, history is also done by them. So your lesson plans for English and History are already done in months in advance. It is cool. The only thing is with the fast turn over you have to do a lot of report cards, but they are easy and you just have to grade them on the 5 subjects you teach. You teach CBL, PE, History, Health, Math. That is it. Now the bad news, you have to past a test call the C Set is it very brutal and you need to get a credential. I am working on my credential right now.
The way the Adm. knows you are doing a good job is they check on you every once in awhile and see how you are teaching and controlling the class, also probation is on the unit. So they can report you if you are doing a bad job manging your class.Last edited by Scottdau; 08-17-2007, 10:27 PM.Comment

Re: BA in History
That looks pretty cool, Scott. Maybe I'll look into that.
See, in January Im going to Aussie for TC and then I gotta figure out if Im going to teach overseas for a few years or try getting a job here. Either way, I have no clue how I go about doing so. Oh God!
But let's say I want to work at a white-collar office. Some people on here say it's possible with a BA in History. If I could get a 70K and growing job someone, I so would. But I dont know how to look for these jobs.
Anyone have any idea?PSN: Peji911Comment

Re: BA in History
You are contract 180 days and I work the summer, so I get pay two checks in the summer. So you get payed separate from your regular salary. If I want I can take the summer off. But I don't because I have about 40 days off a year and I want that extra checks. lolComment

Re: BA in History
So you make around 55K for the 180 days, and then another half of that for the summer?PSN: Peji911Comment

Re: BA in History
NO, I make about 52K for the 180K and an extra 8k in the summer, but I have been there a while, most new teachers start at 40K, but I have more units, so I went up in the pay scale.Comment

How's the teacher's unit in California?
Do you have the contact info for that sector of the schooling?
Also, you said you get some hoodlums. Anything to be scared about?PSN: Peji911Comment
