Hmm. It wasn't paywalled for me a couple of days ago. Sorry.

Anyway, the article broke down several ways that people use the extra time they have. To the chagrin of the know-it-all CEOs who believe we're all worthless and lazy unless we're at the salt mine and supervised, the number one way people use that extra time is working.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

This is definitely a first world problem:

I have been going to the same gym for a while and follow the same weekday routine. I always shower at the gym around 5:45am before work.

Well I went to shower Wednesday and there was a guy cleaning every shower at the same time. I asked if I could use one and he said "I'm cleaning them." So I asked how long he thought it would be and he said "I don't know but I'm cleaning them." I told the guy that it was a really bad time to be doing it because people are in the middle of the morning rush/routine and no one wants to go to work without a shower. So he pops his air pod back in and goes on his way. I didn't go yesterday but this morning I got to the gym and saw the guy.

I felt like I might have overreacted the other day so I walked up to him (he had to remove the airpod again) and apologized. I told him "Hey man I'm sorry about the other day. I probably overreacted and I know you have a job to do too." I felt like I had a good point but idk I just felt like it was the right thing to do since I see him all the time and have for months.

I got done with my workout and the same exact thing happened. This time I didn't say anything and just left and decided I would rather be late to work than go without a shower.

So I guess this is a two part thing for me. One.. everyone working customer service or any job now has air pods in at all times and you never know if you can actually speak to someone. In a gym I'm not looking to talk a lot but ya know if you need something it matters. You see it everywhere.. retail, restaurants, etc..

Two.. I express a concern and it's just ignored. These people work overnight and mostly just stare at their phone. I don't blame them for that because it's probably boring and I would do the same thing but why the change to 5:45 all of a sudden? It's never been a problem until this week and I've been following the same exact routine for months now.

The whole thing is a first world problem and gear grinder but just something on my brain that's frustrating. Do I need to call and ask if they can give me the cleaning schedule or something? lol..

Ha, if you go to Planet Fitness you might wanna fill those feedback emails they send. I filled mine when I had a situation regarding the hot water at the showers and I think it made a difference.

Regarding the showers at gym in general I feel you and there is no way I'm leaving the gym without a shower. I take a long time in the shower (I'm definitely that guy) and one day around 3:00am or so the employee started making a raucous like to let me know he was there and he would prefer if I wrap it up. I just ignored it Now if it happens they just know to let me do my thing and clean the others

To be fair, I feel like 545 is a decent time for them to do it. Maybe there's data which shows what times are least busy in the gym/showers to clean them?

Maybe lots do use it before work, maybe more use it closer to 8-9am?

But this reminds me of a guy I see everyday on my way to work whose cleaning the glass on the doors to go outside. He always does it at the same time, which happens to be in the middle of rush hour (around 8:45-9am).

I get a job is a job and you do things when you can, but it never occurs to them that lots of people are using those very doors at that time of the day.

No gym expert, but I feel between 12am to 4am would be the ideal time to clean the showers (except that that's when I like to take a shower ).

5:45am is definitely more of a "people who go to the gym before work" territory.

But hey, maybe there is a reason they do it at 5:45am, so I'm not gonna argue with it. Gotta do it like me AUChase, get a bit earlier to the shower and put your imaginary air pods on :P

                    Yup, it’s definitely thing.

Now certain Gyms will have signs posted up saying you can’t do that but outside of that, they’re doing whole shoots in there.

And if it’s a Woman…better proceed with caution because they’ll be quick to scream out “harassment” or “creep” for having an issue with them recording without your consent.

I'll tell you what grinds my gears. Not a football fan, but I see where people are making fun of Aaron Rodgers for going on a darkness retreat. It's so refreshing to see a pro athlete who is actually a cool guy and is into psychedelics and things of that nature.

But it seems like Joe Sixpack sports fan just wants to see guys who say inane **** like "I just try to be the best player I can when I step out onto that field. We just have to go out there and execute, and take it one game at a time."

It's a big part of why I don't really watch any sports anymore except for some baseball games.

I think it has more to do with their opinion of Rodgers then of the darkness retreat, spiritual quest, whatever. Of course plenty of people will dismiss it as hippie BS but I think a lot of it is collateral from people thinking Rodgers is kind of an *******. And probably some other reasons too.

It's 2023 - Joe Sixpack Sports Fan hates inane sports soundbites too.

I'd bet the idea of spending four days in isolation and complete darkness is a pretty weird idea to most people, sports fan or not. But Rodgers has got the time, wants to do it, and it's not hurting anyone so more power to him. We don't have to ignore that it's weird though - it's just harmless quirky weird.
