It looks the same, and even the article says breeders can get them to vary in size and weight. I mean, the cats look cool, but why pay $22k for one that some breeder makes sound like some exotic scientific test tube breed? This company is getting some nice PR and the news sites talking about it all use the same info.Comment

Re: Not Much of a cat person but...
well if you get down there in the discussions, breeders claim this cat is only a non registered, unknown pedigree of this breed of cat..

Re: Not Much of a cat person but...
Great looking cat (have two, one a Manx (tailless), love them both).
To give you an idea how BIG this cat is, check out the photo.
Want to own a leopard? That probably wouldn't be legal, but for $22,000 you can have the next best thing. A company called Lifestyle Pets is selling what it claims is a cross between an African Serval, an Asian Leopard Cat and a domestic cat. So it's like a smaller, tamer version of a leopard. They call this cat an Ashera. Their product page says, Fully socialized, the Ashera gets along well with children and other pets and unusually for cats, the Ashera takes well to being walked on a leash. At first when I saw the Lifestyle Pets website, I thought it was some kind of elaborate hoax in the vein of GenPets. But the Ashera seems to be real. At least, it's being widely reported in the news. And these cats look big! (Well, big for cats.) I don't think any other cats in the neighborhood would mess with them. Not many dogs would either, I would bet. It would look pretty cool walking one of these cats around the neighborhood, but for $22,000 they're a bit out of my price range.

These are cool looking cats, but if they are available elsewhere for less than 22k and minus the hype, than awesome.Comment

Re: Not Much of a cat person but...
again, if you actually read the links, there are breeders saying how these cats vary in size. They even have pictures of other cats getting this big. They also explain that any breeder could get this cat up to this size, but this company is charging 22k for it and getting nice PR.

Re: Not Much of a cat person but...
Sounds like the Ashera GD would be right up your alley. Only bad part is it's $28,000 instead of $22,000. But I guess if you're spending $20,000+ on a cat, the extra $6,000 isn't going to hurt much.Comment
