    Migraine headaches

Anybody on this site ever get them? I get them a couple times of year and they suck big time. I usually get blurry vision first, then a powerful headache kicks in, with some nausea thrown in for good measure. My doctor gave me some meds to take. They get rid of the blurry vision, but not so much the headache. The worst part is that I have a "hangover" and have a headache the next day.
I think I've isolated what causes them: dehydration or drinking more than a glass or two of red win. The migraine doesn't show up until a few days later.
The reason I'm posting this is I'm suffering from one right now. I normally would leave work and take a nap (which seems to help), but I've got to coach my junior basketball team after work, so I think I'm just going to tough it out. I felt kinda dehydrated yesterday and I really didn't drink enough liquids (except beer) on Saturday.
I was just curious to see if anyone else ever had these and how you treat/avoid them.

I get them too...i don't know what causes mine but I can always tell because my vision gets cloudy...as soon as I start seeing sunspots/cloudy vision I take the strongest tylenol/aspirin I can find

      Re: Migraine headaches

Same here. And they SUCK like a Hoover.

Almost identical symptoms as you cats, too. Feel a dull ache, with spots in my vision. Then I feel a bit of nausea. Then it feels like someone is driving a drill bit into my skull. Sometimes the nausea increases to the point of nearly vomiting and the stars in my eyes look like the Milky Way when the headache is really severe.

I was on medication for migraines about 25 years ago when I was 17, but the medication made me sluggish as hell. So I stopped taking it after a couple of months.

Now I just bear through it. A couple of Goody's Headache Powders and a cup of black coffee help to alleviate the pain and eliminates the pain after three or four hours.

Not pleasant. Not something I would wish upon anyone. But I've had migraines for so long that I've learned to live with them.

Avoiding certain trigger foods can help reduce the numbers and severity of migraines. Cheese, chocolate and red wine are big-time triggers. Stay hydrated, too.

      Take care,

        Re: Migraine headaches

I used to get migranes a lot a couple years ago. I was pretty heavy on pop at that age, drank two or so a day. Then I quit drinking pop (which the caffeine withdrawl was not fun, had worse migranes), and the frequency dropped off a lot. Now I get them in streaks. I used to get them about once a week, maybe twice. Now I may go months without them, but will have about 3-4 days straight of migranes. For me, I get very sensitive to light, and basically the only way for me to feel decent is take some of the highest strength tylenol I can find, and just lay down in the dark. For me, a trigger is whenever somebody verbally mentions having one, I don't really know why, but if somebody around me is complaining of one, I end up with one. That isn't that often, but annoying. My girlfriend never gets them, I am pretty jealous.

Sure that's not a tension headache instead of a migraine? There is a difference, although your sensitivity to light is a symptom of a migraine.

People often mistakenly call a severe tension headache or a hangover a migraine. There's a big difference between the two. Not pointing the finger at you, just pointing that out.

Same exact symptoms. My vision would go blurry, it would come back and then the headache would kick in. It really wouldn't get better until I threw up.

One of them put me in the hospital. I was waiting for my mom to pick me up from middle school, and the next thing I remember, I'm puking in the hospital parking lot. Apparently, I forgot who I was, forgot my family, and really scared the crap out of my mom. I don't remember any of it...

What helped me was the chiropractor. I found out that my neck was crooked, and what was happening was my muscles would tighten (usually my headaches happened after exercising) and my vertebrae would hit the spinal chord.

Had one last night and earlier this morning. Started off with a blur in one eye, then the shots started hitting my head.

Hate them. Get about 2 or 3 a year.

I couldn't imagine a migraine headache. I have had a handful of headaches my whole life ( I mean I never ever get headaches only time is if I am real sick) so I bet migraines hurt like hell.

You can't list beer as something that you're drinking to replenish your fluids! It's only going to dehydrate you more.

Water is an amazing substance that we all take for granted. When I was recovering from my shoulder surgery, it was recommended that I drink lots of water. I attribute my fairly speedy recovery to flooding myself. But, man, do you have to piss alot!!

My migraine like headaches come from going to bed too late and bad curvature in my neck. I don't get blurry vision, but I'm very photosensitive. Try sucking down one or two Goody's or BC powders with a carbonated soda (apparently carbonation rushes the medicine to your blood stream faster). Make sure you stick the powder way on the back of your tongue or else it tastes horrible. Then after the soda, flush down more with a good 16 oz. glass of water or more.

I used to get them A LOT. It's tapered off a bit now but I still get them on occasion. I have the same symptoms as you guys. I've tried everything to get rid of them once they hit me, including running my head over extremely hot water. Most of the time though i'm curled up in my bed crying and trying to get sleep.

Last migraine I had was hmmm a good 4 or so months ago.

No, its migrane, I had them diagnosed when I was younger. The one that I bring up whenever somebody says something may be a tension one. However the vision as well as pretty much an inability to concentrate (concentrating my vision was very difficult, especially with small floating blobs around, the doctor told me on bad days to avoid driving if at all possible) pretty much ruins my day, and was what got me into the doctors.

My real bad headaches have been caused by 3 things.

                            Eye Strain

                            Caffeine Withdrawl

Very intense work-outs on an empty stomach.

But after reading all of this, I realize I just had a migraine.
