I do agree with you jerseyboi that nowadays parents aren't doing their job. I also like the point you made about parents not talking "to" their kid, but "at" their kid. That's so true.
About the rapists and pedophiles, maybe its just my neighborhood, but we don't have that problem here. So children are safe outdoors (I was back in the day!), and they have no reason not to go outside.
So you are right that parents aren't doing their job, but technology can be blamed as well. Television and the Internet are the reason our children are inactive. Nowadays, a child runs home after school so he/she can watch TV; play on a game console or go on the Internet. When I was a kid, I'd run home from school to get a hockey stick or a soccer ball, and run back to school to play with other kids in the park. This has changed though, as I mentioned. Has the rise in child obesity not shown in North America? Parents must do their job in talking to their children, but technology has its negatives as well.
