    Re: Hurricane Ike

Damn, I lived for quite some time in Savannah while my wife was going to SCAD. I hope it doesn't get hit. It would be a damn shame if that place got hit hard after all the work that's been done to renew the city over the past thirty years or so. I did a lot of construction work for a guy who was working on cleaning up some of the neighborhoods in the city and I'm on edge to think of what a major hurricane would do to that area. You hate for a hurricane to damage any place, but Savannah and Charleston are exceptionally, beautiful, historic, cities.

Lol just kidding, yeah it's still open. I've definitely seen worse malls though, especially in Detroit.

The bad thing about Ike is it could hit the southern tip of Florida and get out into the gulf and strengthen. If it does that it'll get back to a Cat 3 or possibly a 'weak' Cat 4. And then make landfall again like Katrina did.

if it stays of the same track that hanna was just on, then it will weaken a bit because hanna churned up the water and brought the cold water to the surface. however, once it gets past where hanna turned north (around the florida/cuba coast) then it will once again hit warm water and restrengthen. if it makes it into the gulf again, watch out.

Half of the stores in that mall are closed down. At least the last time I was down there(last summer)

I guess Oglethorpe Mall is the new spot down there now. But yea, I got a cousin that stays in Thunderbolt also. Love Savannah though. That place is like my second home. Beautiful weather(at times lol), good food, especially the spots along the riverfront, Savannah St(although I heard that campus is on the decline as well lol)

I just hope that this storm doesn't follow the same track Hanna is. But then again, I wish this storm would just buck a quick u-turn back into the Atlantic and then shoot north in up the Atlantic. But if it does continue at it's current path, I hope you folks down there be safe man.

Well, they project it to get down to a catergory two, but then strengthen back to a category four before it either makes landfall in Florida, heads south into the Florida straits, or turns north towards the Carolinas. That said, the weather forecasters are rarely right it seems so I wouldn't put too much stock in what they say right now.

BTW, if it takes the path they are projecting ... it looks almost identical to Katrina, just stronger and a little farther to the East.

I have a bad feeling about this storm.

Man, you people who live down there are crazy, I don't think I can deal with a Hurricane.
