That reminds me of the one time my dad got a ticket in Central Kansas when he was working up there. He works up there often, so he schedule it so he could fight it, and work up there at the same time. They asked him if he drove 4 hours up there just to fight the ticket, he said yes, and they dropped any sort of fine.

If their intent is to reduce injury to civilians and peace officers then they should widen the emergency lanes and reduce their interstate/freeway speed limits.
Reducing the speed would interrupt the flow of traffic too, and some places widening the shoulder would probably be near impossible.

I understand the OPs frustration, but as a motorist it's your responsibility to know the laws of the road. I'd be mad if I got ticketed too, but if I found it was a law then the joke is on me.

If it saves one life it's not stupid.

To me, the law makes one thousand per cent obvious sense.

But everybody else, you better not drop a piece of hair on the ground or else you going to have 4 or 6 cops on you. I have had a friend get a ticket for driving with this windows down, no lie. Cop on Lake Shore Drive said did you know all that air is distracting and cause you to have an accident ?

$175 ticket. Took it to court, $175 ticket plus $75 in court fees.

Its a block party down the street!!! No ticket after they ran my stuff lol but the cop talking to me became mad because I was eating while he was talking to me...I told him that I just spent $5.00 on this water ice and im not letting it melt for nothing(had a gelati)....He then gets in his car and pulls off.....LoL young guy in a brand new car....yea, just a reason to pull me over.....

Since then Ive ask my uncle(a cop) for one of those police emblem things(that says fraternity) you place on your plates and Ive havent been pull over since.....Been followed alot however......

As for the the ticket the OP received, I never knew this was a law lmao, I aways move over just because It seem like the right thing to do plus I dont want to hit anybody....

After being clipped by a passing cars passenger side mirror, as I was assisting a motorist stranded on the side of hte road, I can say without a doubt, if you don't move over and you have a free lane to do so, I'll chase you down and ticket you as well. It's common sense. I have been clipped twice, and dove over a guardrail to get out of the way of a passing semi once. So please.... Get over...

What if both lanes are crowded or someone is passing you on the left as you are approaching the cop stopped on the shoulder??

If that was the case the trooper would not have hunted you down and ticketed you. They in most cases have more common sense and discretion then you think.

This law saves lives and is a huge fine and demerits in Canada.

I get over whenever I can, for stranded cars, tow trucks, construction.

As for spiiting and hitting the gas....wow. Nothing like turning a crappy $200 mistake into an assault and other more serious traffic violations.

Getting a ticket sucks. Can ruin your day. But in the end its your mistake. Gotta suck it up and deal with it.

Around here you can fight and explain to try and lessen the fine. E.g. your a student etc. But usually its not worth your time.

In the law, but usually as long as you slow down some and coast by, you should be fine. You don't want to cause an accident because you slammed on your brakes to slow down 20mph.

I got one of these before. I was furious too. Got it on the PA Turnpike. I attempted to fight it, but got lost going there. SO I had to pay a $185 ticket for that nonsense.
                              Concrete evidence/videos please

You may think it's nonsense, but I've had some massive bruises that prove otherwise, as people didn't get over while I had a car stopped.

Helping an elderly lady change a tire, and get clipped by someone's passenger side mirror is no joke.

If there isn't a lane to move over to because of the flow of traffic, at least be decent and slow down a little.
