If it's below zero with wind, frostbite can happen in 5 minutes. When the wind chill drops significantly below zero here, schools are usually delayed 2 hours or cancelled. You can't put kids waiting at the bus stop in danger. It takes quite a snowstorm (12 inches+) here for them to cancel school because of just snow, though.

That's true, good point. I'm a bit naive because I've never lived in that kind of climate. Still though, extreme weather isn't something we should make our kids sit in at school (if we can avoid it).

Up here in Washington, the biggest issue during snow days is how much ice is on the road.

Growing up in Chicago, the actual temperature had to be -15 or the wind chill had to be -25 in order for school to be closed, which rarely happened, my whole school hood school was only closed 4 times due to wind chill. And the snow had to be 4ft deep in order for the school to be closed, which never happened because Chicago has one of the largest snow plowing fleet in the nation.

Far as heat......never closed. And back then schools in Chicago didn't end until the 26th of June. June and September is one of the most humid hot months of the school year, where the temperature would be 94 degrees on average with a heat index of 107.

Depending on where you go, people don't know how to drive in rain up here either which makes no sense. I've also noticed a lack of turn signals being used lately.

It depends on the car too. I drove through the snow in Indiana without problem. Well with my sports car and the inch of ice on the road I didn't have the same luck.

I was going 10mph, if that, in a straight line and I spun out. Not even kidding. Thankfully I didn't hit anyone or anything.

My sports car becomes completely stupid when there is ice on the ground. I am dreading winter in Chicago. I've spun out a few times just going really slow but have never hit anything or anyone. I've also gotten stuck quite a few times in snow.

Each person gets one chance to do this in their lifetime. Just get it done as fast as possible - I'm sure the living situation will be motivation enough for that.

Any more than one temporary move-back (barring unforseen crazy circumstances like house burning down) in one lifetime grants you deadbeat status.

No, I think it's understandable. Is it a great situation? Not really. But if you're really dedicated to going back to school, then you've got to do what you've got to do.

I can't wait to get home from work and play NCAA '11 for about 8 hours. All those games last night got me in the mood to finally start my "real" dynasty that I'll stick with for multiple seasons.

Like, OMG, who should I be guys?
