    car people

I know nothing about cars so bear with me.

I have an '08 Chevy Silverado ext. cab with just under 60,000 miles on it. I bought it used at 48k. I am wondering what services need to be done on it.

Whenever I take it in the dealer recommends these
    • Flush cooling system
    • differential service
    • rotate tires
    • pack rear wheel brgs
    • maint tune-up
    • Transmission Service
    • Pack pri whl bearing
    • lube chasis
    • 30,000 mile service

but considering they wanted to charge over $200+ to get the transmission serviced, I know not all of this probably needs to be done yet and they want me to do stuff I know I can wait on. Hell the guy always gets onto me if I go longer then 3 months or over 3,000 miles on my oil. I'm not that dumb.

So I am just wondering which of these services I actually need to look into getting done, and roughly how much they should cost?

You could probably hold off on the Transmission Service. I'm sure it does but be sure the tune up includes cleaning your injectors and changing your fuel filter

If you are not having transmission problems you can probably wait on that. Besides the others I would just go over the engine and check all hoses and belts and wiring connections.

Also not trying to bash dealers but see if you can find a local mechanic. He or she will probably be cheeper and do better work than a dealer. Meaning you could get more done for the same or less money and they are more likely to check everything.

I have an 07 with 60k and I have not done any of that. I have only changed the oil and added gas. Maybe a new air filter one time. Did it come with an owners manual? It should tell you in there more about what needs to be done and when. If not, you can probably find the manual online.

You should rotate the tires every 10-15k miles. Most places will do this for less than $20. Some dealers push hard on the other things, because that is where they make most of their money.

I know to stay away from dealer. They wanted like $40 for new wipers and to install them and over $200 for the transmission. I have a buddy who has worked for Acura and Lexus and he says they will just add on man hours and run up the price.
