Yup - nothing like making a second mistake on top of the first one.

Why because she won't watch the same shows as him. Yeah big problems ahead there. She seems like a controlling type of person and he seems like one that is use to that. If he is not and he has to control every thing. Then I can see him not in the relationship. He would have left a long time ago.

Though fathering a child would be an awesome end to your cancer story, I do agree that the likelihood of you being able to father a child so soon after treatment is remote. If however your gf is indeed pregnant, I would strongly adivse you to seek genetic counseling since the risk of a chromosomally abnormal conceptus is probably significantly increased in your case. Hope everything works out for the best though.

For get the controlling part. If you don't know if you love her DON'T GET MARRIED. You are not ready yet. You might be in love with being in love. Meaning you have a cute girl now and it is fun to have some one, especially since you use to say back in the day you had no one. I would think long and hard about this.

I don't want to sound like a jerk or anything, but if you thought you couldn't have kids, and now she's pregnant, you may want to have a paternity test to be sure it's yours.

As a ball and chain guy, you gotta step up and be assertive. I don't mean be a total jerk, but show her you got balls man. My wife and I don't agree on a ton of things, she hates watching sports because well I'm very "passionate" about them. Much like I can't stand all that lifetime crap that she loves. You don't gotta do everything together though. Its not hard to find things you both like, stick to those, and do other things separate.

I can agree with this. She just wants you to put her in her place. I am sure she doesn't like the fact that you allow her to walk over you so much.

Not sure if you are joking about "STFU," and I know some have already in this thread referenced standing up to her and telling her like it is, but that doesn't fly. The relationship has to have mutual respect, not one telling the other to shut up or referring to her as a ball and chain.

If you are creating a culture in your relationship where when you desire agreement you have to sound threatening or disrespectful, the agreement you get won't be genuine. If everything is held in you will over time become distant from each other's true feelings, and unfortunately, intimacy will be gone. And when that happens you are treading in dangerous territory.

Just to be clear, I never have told her STFU, it was just a quick way to make the point that I ask her not to belabor the point as I do not like it..

The fact that she is worried about your drinking and you need to "tie one on" leads me to believe you have a drinking problem. Drinking to the extent you do, I don't think its possible to have a healthy long term relationship or be a responsible parent.

I usually drink one night a week. As for tying one on, I was kinda joking and sort of not, I do like to drink to get a good buzz, I don't just drink a couple because it doesn't affect me if I just drink a couple. I really don't see much point to drinking alcohol if you're not going to get a bit of a buzz, in my opinion anyways.. As for the having a problem issue, I don't believe I have any problem but saying that is something that anyone who does or anyone who does not would say so it's sort of pointless to say even.

No offense, but with the stories you have posted here, the last thing you guys should be doing is bringing a child into the world. If you're having issues over TV shows which is causing fights, a baby is only going to make things 100x worse.

We don't "fight" over tv, we have had disagreements over it. What relationship is completely free of any disagreement? Fighting, to me, is yelling and getting heated and we have never done that, I've never raised my voice once to her in our relationship, I've never cussed at her and we've never gotten heated...

Really, if that tv thing is our biggest issue, and right now it is, I think we are doing really well overall..

If you're drinking one night a week, you're fine.

Most people drink one night a week and get hammered and don't consider themselves alcoholics. Some do it more often than that and I don't think a lot of people would consider them alcoholics.

Have you asked her why she doesn't like you to drink? Is it a preference thing, does she not like how you behave buzzed, is it merely because she just wants to say something?

Don't agree about the "why drink alcohol if you're not going to get a buzz". I drink certain brands because they taste great. Could care less about getting a buzz.
Anyways just make sure if there's ever a "next step" in the relationship that these issues have been resolved for some time. Much easier to stop a gf/bf relationship than a marriage.
Best of luck man, but if she can't be 50/50 then it really isnt a shared life.

Who cares how? You're gonna be on the hook financially for at least 18 years. Might want to make sure given your circumstances.
