Ugh, big Monsoon storm took out our grill, a glass top of a patio table, and some roof tiles....Gotta figure out what it might cost to replace, but probably have to go through the homeowners insurance claim process....Fun! I was thinking how it might be awesome to waste some money on a deductible lol

Though if they cover that table set and grill it might be cool to be able to get new stuff, I dunno.

I'm in NW Gilbert near McQueen and Guadalupe...

We got hit hard, a lot of neighbors and people nearby had walls and trees go down, so could have been way worse. Never seen it that bad, the wind was insane.

          Question for the pool owners:
How do you handle your pool in the Winter/offseason?

Do you cover it? Winterize it? Leave it alone? Drain it?

I live in Arizona so we have it up year round....when it's colder it uses less chemicals, so that's nice.

I know that places it freezes you have to drain the pipes so they don't freeze and bust open....

I keep mine open year round as well. I have a freeze warning on the pump to kick on if the temp drops below 34 that way nothing freezes up.

I don't know if my new pump has that, I'll have to check....You're totally right though, when we have freeze warning nights I just set my pump to run all night....

buying a house next month that has one and was wondering this as well, the owner told me he used to cover it every year, but the past few didn't bother. You still lower the level below the pump/jet level and don't drain too much or it will crack because of ground pressure.

Without covering it though, he said you still just have to skim all the big stuff out, but the filter and chemicals take care of the rest.

What I'm going to do next year when it's closing time is invest in one of those trampoline looking covers because I have a 6month old, who by then will be 1 and a half -

I like the idea that I can walk right on top of it, and my dad mentioned his buddy has one and because it's so flat and because of the material most stuff just blows right off it instead of accumulating.

Downside is they are a bit pricey.

Been installing dimmers throughout the house lately (2 of them I can control from anywhere on my phone). Made the smart decision to invest in a cordless drill/screwdriver set.

When an electrician said he'd charge $50 per light I told him he was crazy. Watched a couple of youtube videos and made a call to Lowes when I got stuck (using a 3 way dimmer on a single pole).

About how much do those covers cost?

I'm afraid to put one on because we get very high winds.

Cleaning the pool when it cold outside is a pain.

Does anyone know of a humane way to get rid of mice? It seems I have a family of them living in my shed, but I don't like killing things so I'd prefer not to use the normal traps. I've read online that Peppermint oil or dry snake poo will deter them. Has anyone had any success using either of those or anything else?

There are devices that omit an ultrasonic sound that can drive them out. Just do a google search for them. The sound irritates them so much they leave the area.

For a guy who's not exactly a DIY type of guy, how hard is it to install a new water heater?

It's electric, so I don't have to worry about gas. And it's in the corner of the garage with nothing around it. Should be relatively easy, right? Even for a noob like me?
