Re: OS Unemployment Club
Also, for you other folks, won't hurt to say what you're trying to do or have experience in. Even OS can be a networking opportunity, as evidenced a few posts up. I'm sure there's people around here who know people who might be in need of someone.[NYK|DAL|VT]

Re: OS Unemployment Club
I wish all of you good fortune in the near future.
I can say I'm lucky to have a job, and have been employed for the past 6-7 years, whenever I started working. I got lucky with a job in my career of choice straight out of college.
However, I've come here and read these stories and it just instills in me the need to be prepared. I have been spending and spending, with little saving going on. Hearing stories first hand makes one realize you can't predict what will happen tomorrow, or the day after, or in a month, etc.
With that said, hope this club becomes member-less in the near future. Good luck to you all!Comment

Re: OS Unemployment Club
I would like to provide my update - also with good news. I ended up mulling over two offers (would have probably had 3, but when a third company expressed interest I told them no thanks before things got too far).
I ended up finding a new job - a better job than I had before. The only downside is that I had to relocate my family to Columbus, OH. There is nothing wrong with Columbus and I actually like the city very much, it is just never easy to uproot your family and move them 2300 miles. Anyway, I shouldn't complain. I am very fortunate to have a very in-demand degree and skill-set - something that I know is not very common right now.
Best of luck to everyone in this thread."Attempted murder? Now, honestly, what is that? Do they give a Nobel Prize for attempted chemistry?"

Re: OS Unemployment Club
As of 8-9-13 I have joined this club. I worked on a military base as a contractor (computer programmer) and was on a 6 month to hire contract. Basically I was getting paid by a staffing company until I was hired on, which I was on track to be. Well with the sequesters and budget cuts, my contract was cut and I was informed of literally the week I was to be hired on. My hire-on date was supposed to be July 2nd, (I started Jan 2) but myself and three other people in the same boat I was in were told the best they could do was extend us out another 3 months to see if they had funding to bring us aboard. A few weeks later we were told that August 9th would be our last day because the money wasn't there. They also let a guy who who'd been there for 2 years since they needed to trim more money.
The good thing is the recruiter that found this job has a few others she's working on for me. She'd already submitted me for a few positions and I took some tests last week with her staffing company to help my chances on getting hired. All the positions are a pay increase too. I am optimistic I'll find something before long. We all got a raw deal and even my direct boss admitted it. He wrote me a nice letter of recommendation and several co-workers who have been there for a while offered to be references. Plus my recruiter has been kept up to date on everything and she knew I would have be hired on had it not been for the budget cuts.Last edited by Herky; 08-20-2013, 05:06 AM.GT: Herkyalert

Re: OS Unemployment Club
I'm back in the club.
My job refused to give me part-time, and I couldn't work the schedule they wanted me to work and go to school.
Now I have to worry about finding something so I don't lose my car.--

Re: OS Unemployment Club
I'm in the club. 23 years old and I just graduated college this past May. I don't have a whole lot of experience but I know quite a few people so I was never worried. I focused on just enjoying my time and hanging out with my friends whenever I could. But my first student loan payment is due this November so it's time to get a job. I've already had a phone interview and I'm going into the office this Wednesday for a formal interview. It's a pretty basic position so I should be able to get it. It'll put me in a position to learn about the industry and get the licenses needed to basically do anything within the industry.
Good news is it won't start until October so I'll have plenty of time to play GTA5.Comment
