Bad Review on Yelp = Lawsuit?

Christopher Dietz filed a $750,000 Internet defamation lawsuit against Perez last month, saying the postings on Yelp and others on Angie’s List were false and sent customers fleeing.
I never really thought anything after posting a negative review on yelp. I've done many bad reviews on certain occasions where the restaurant was just plain bad. I had written a draft for a daycare my daughter was in for a couple months, that if I had posted, I'm sure the daycare wouldn't be too happy about. But I never thought that posting your opinion about a business will result in a lawsuit.

I think the line is crossed when she accuses the contractor of stealing jewelry.

If the claims are false, then it's defamation or slander. Just like word of mouth.

If she thought that the contractor stole her jewelry, wouldn't you think she'd call the police first??
