That's the real issue. We have a certain high profile case that's getting all of the national media attention, but it detracts from the inner-city violence that happens every single day. If we'd put as much effort into curtailing violence as we do blacking out FB pages, posing and wearing hoodies and dumb **** like that we'd be alright.Last edited by ScoobySnax; 07-30-2013, 11:40 AM.Comment

There's nothing sensational about typical inner city violence. It's commonplace. Prevalent in nearly every mid-sized to large-sized U.S. city. I'm pretty sure it has always been the case that cable news channels absolutely thrive off of these stories containing unique factors because the sensationalism is built in and can be milked for (literally) all it's worth.
The networks are driven by a need to make a profit. That is always the prime consideration. Until there is a fairly radical shift in consumer viewing habits, I doubt we'll see much improvement in their content.
And collectively, we're really just left with the ****ty news networks we deserve. Look at the majority of shows on entertainment-related networks that receive stellar ratings. It's certainly no wonder why the news networks have followed suit.Comment

Dog eats paralyzed Arkansas man's testicle
TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) - An Arkansas man awoke Monday morning to find his dog had eaten one of his testicles, police say.
The 39-year-pold man, who will not be identified, is paralyzed and told Trumann police he had “no feeling from the waist down.”
Around 7:45 a.m. Monday he said he was awakened by a “burning pain” in his mid-section, according to the police report.
The man told police he sleeps in the nude. On that morning, he awoke to find the dog between his legs. He also noticed the “small, white, fluffy dog” had blood on its muzzle and front feet.
When the man took a closer look, the report states he noticed “the dog had eaten one of his testicles.”
The victim said the dog was a stray he had taken in about three weeks ago. The man was unsure if the dog had been vaccinated.
Police took the dog to a local veterinarian where it was euthanized. The dog's body was sent to the Arkansas Department of Health to be tested for rabies.
The victim was taken to St. Bernards Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries

Fort Collins police arrest rapper while he was recording video about SWAT standoff

An aspiring teenage rapper accused of threatening his roommates with a knife was recording a music video about being surrounded by the SWAT team when a flash bang grenade went off in his Fort Collins home.
Police arrested Josh Jackson, 19, and said he faces felony menacing charges. Jackson goes by the name Adequate Advocate, and in his rap, discusses his roommates and his family. The title of the video is “police are trying to murder me as I write this.”
“Bring the motherf***** SWAT team, special weapons and tactics, operation,” Jackson raps. “I’m not a criminal, I’m political, and right now... Oh s***! You heard the blast.”
The video ends abruptly after the grenade goes off. Police exploded several of the flash-bangs late Monday night in an effort to get Jackson to leave the single-story rental home on Duke Lane, just east of College Avenue near Stover.
Police Capt. Jerry Schiager said of the man later identified as Jackson: “He’s got a history of resisting the police in the past.”
Late Monday night, more than 15 marked police cars were in the neighborhood, along with the SWAT team’s Bearcat armored vehicle.
Police repeatedly made loud announcements ordering Jackson to leave the home. Jackson’s roommates told police he threatened them with a knife.
“Police think I’m a fiend. That’s why right now literally they’re outside my house,” Jackson rapped on the video before the grenade exploded. “Because my roommates done did it. Done thought that I was a misfit. Done thought that I had my wrist slit too many times. Done thought that too many people had left my mind.”
The police activity drew dozens of residents out of their homes to watch from several blocks away.Comment
