    Re: Any cyclists/mountain bikers/commuters?

Got a 20-mile ride in yesterday. The second half was torture as the weather changed and I had to deal with a steady 18-20 mph. wind blowing against me. Definitely not fun and my legs were toast by the time I finally made it home. I probably could've used another layer of clothing as well; again, I was dressed properly when I left (these high winds and temperature drop were supposed to happen overnight), but the wind had me feeling cold the last 30 minutes.

Ah well, I got through it. Not every ride is going to be under 100% perfect conditions.

Did 13 miles on the mountain bike today. 5 of that was gravel and road. The area I normally ride has been closed because of the tornado that came through a couple weeks ago caused a lot of damage. It has been nice exploring some new areas though.

Good pics! I'll have to start sharing mine as I tend to try and post on IG after each ride.

          Re: Any cyclists/mountain bikers/commuters?

I found my cycling inspiration a couple years ago stumbling upon Youtube videos by Iohan Gueorguiev. He is solo cycling from the Arctic Ocean to Argentina in stages over the past five years. The videos are unbelievable as he started from Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories during the late fall. Not exactly ideal conditions. (Link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OD6sEXyYNFY).

The quality of the first videos aren't great -- he is doing this solo after all -- but eventually someone gave him a drone and the videos have become documentary quality. I think he is up to about 35 videos now and is in Argentina. Why has it taken him five years? Well, he likes to backtrack and he has gone back to Alaska and about a 700-km journey across the Yukon on an old logging road. He always takes the roads less traveled across mountains, away from the main roads. Talk about isolated.

After watching his videos I said f*** it, if he can cycle in outrageous conditions, I can cycle during the winter.

I've cycled every year in Europe as a vacation for about 10 years but got more serious about it in 2018. I cycled 2,000 km in 2018 and aimed for 2,500 km in 2019. I didn't come even close but I did cycle for a personal best 2,022 km. Hoping to step it up in 2020.

I'm always interested in hearing other people's cycling experiences, especially in the United States with the Great American Rail Trail under construction.

Tour de Zwift Stage 1 complete. A 19.2 mile ride around London. Mostly flat, but there were a few steep hills. By far my longest actual work out in at least 5 years, but I'm happy that I finished it. I think I'll do stage 2 on friday.

Have not been able to ride since the New Years Holiday. Had the flu last week and it's been nonstop rain it seems here since the first of the year soaking the trails.

                  Hope you're feeling better now.

I hear you with the weather; we're getting snow now and will be in single digits over the weekend and into early next week. I have the indoor trainer ready to go, so at least can do something, but it'll definitely be a while before I get my next outdoor ride in.

Yea I need to consider investing in an indoor trainer for times like these.

I've put over 200 miles on Salsa Journeyman in 2020. Trying to get out a couple of times a week while the weather is warm, while also keeping up a consistent running schedule.

Considering getting a fat tire bike to have for the winter months here. My trainer is breaking down and I'd rather invest in another bike than buy a new trainer, because like treadmills, I don't like doing that type of exercising indoors.

Got a 8 mile out and back ride in yesterday morning. I bonked trying to go a little harder than I should have with the heat and having pretty poor nutrition for a few days from being on a trip to Arkansas with my dad.

Got a quick little 6 mile ride in before work this morning. Had planned on about 10 miles but hit the snooze button a few times too many. Lol

Looking like rain most if the weekend but hopefully get a couple rides in.

Made another trip to Lincoln Parish Park on Monday. Got ride the Yeti my friend just built up. That was not a good idea, now I need a full suspension bike. [emoji23]

Yeti's are amazing bikes. When I lived in Colorado I rode with a lady whose husband worked at Yeti, engineering the frames. Sadly, the employee discount didn't extend to friends.

Looks like you had a nice outing. I'm hoping to travel a little outside of town myself this weekend and explore some different gravel roads/trails here in IA.

Got a 6.5 mile mtb ride in this morning before work. Averaged an 8.7mph pace and set a few new pb's. Best I've felt on the bike in a while. Lower humidity and cooler temp helped.
