Old school A&W was awesome, sadly it's not what it used to be, and what comes from the grocery is faint shadow of old school A&W from the tap.

Some of the best root beer you can find is made by the same people that make great beer, so a lot of small breweries make it. Best bottled root beer I've had is called Bulldog root beer, awesome stuff.

Right...A&W out of the tap at an A&W drive in was amazing. Not as good as it used to be but still very good.

Barq's is a great change-of-pace root beer. Also impossible to beat in a belching contest. I used to say Barq's stood for "Belches And Rude QueasingS."

As to beer companies, I think Sam Adams makes a good root beer but it's been years since I had one.

Gimme Sprecher root beer outta the glass bottle. Mmm.

That's a good one too. Their beer isn't too shabby either.

I love A&W, but my favorite was Hires Root beer, but haven't seen it in years, company may be defunct now. A & W with vanilla reminds me most of Hires.

IBC for me. Every time I'd make the trip down to camp as a kid, my grandfather would have an entire case of IBC waiting for me. Those suckers would be gone in a day.

Guess what I picked up this weekend? Some Bulldog root beer.

I also picked up a bottle of this, it's not root beer but I'm pretty excited to try it since I like other Reeds stuff:
