Not the healthiest preparation, but screw it. Only once or twice a year I have turkey.
That's how my cousin does it. He puts like 5 sticks of butter in and on the turkey, then when they all melt, he just keeps basting it over and over again. It's the best turkey I've ever had. Very moist.

I think I may do the Gordon Ramsey bird this year. The herbs he used sounds really good.

Quick (probably dumb) question.. My power went out a couple months ago. We lost it for about 4-5 hours. Turkey was in the freezer completely frozen. I never opened the freezer so everything was still cold and frozen when the power eventually came back on. Is this turkey safe?

I'm 99.9% sure I'll buy a new one to not risk getting everyone sick, but I wanted to see what everyone has to say.

Frozen foods in the freezer should remain frozen for a full day as long as you don't continually open the freezer while the power was out.

Your turkey will be fine. No need to buy another one.

Thanks guys. I feel like Frank Costanza after he started cooking again. One cough will make me go mental thinking the turkey went bad.

Is there any foolproof way of testing the turkey other than eating it?

As long as you cook it to the proper temperature, you're good. Not sure exactly what that temp is, but if you're that concerned, do a Google search and borrow a meat thermometer if you don't have one.

A family friend that owns a BBQ restaurant smokes one for us. It's insanely good. Seasons it with cajun spices which if you're anywhere in the deep south it's mandatory.

Injected with Cajun seasoning then fried to perfection in our infrared deep fryer. The meat is moist and the skin tastes like heaven. Easily my favorite meal of the year.

Smoked... never want my wife to cook another oven turkey again so I grill it every year now. It just tastes so much better.

We usually go with Deep Frying, however while on vacation my father-in-law found some infrared cooker and wants to try that. So I guess we are changing it up this year. Going to miss standing around the deep frier with a Budweiser.

I may do this with chicken. My homemade smoker is too small to fit my turkey
