    Re: 2014 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Got in a nice 5-mile run in last night after work. My breathing has improved over the last few days, so the new nasal spray I'm on, combined with a new humidifier for the bedroom, has made a difference. No struggles on last night's run compared with a few days ago.

1 month in 12.2 pounds down so far. Most of those (around 8) I lost during the first 2 weeks. If I keep shedding 1-2 pounds a week I should be around where I want to be in 2 months or so.

I'm extremely interested in juicing for a period of time.

I have The Big Book of Juices which has over 400 different recipes. However, I keep it simple:

        2 Granny Smith Apples
        2 Oranges
        2 Grapefruits
        1 Bunch of Kale
        1 Bunch of Spinach
        1 Cucumber
        3 celery stalks
        several Carrots

I try to fill up a one gallon container so that I have my juice to drink all day including in the morning and up to bedtime. I use a slowstar juicer so that it doesn't heat up or induce much air so that I keep most of the nutrients.

Here are some that I have tried:
Losing weight by juicing is one of the things that makes juicing so popular today. Weight loss isn't about eating less, it's about eating right.

Watched Fork Over Knives on netflix for the 2nd time (or was it my 3rd?) and totally committed to the 28-day challenge of the Engine2Diet by Rip Esselstyn.

I feel incredible good by just giving up dairy this week. So much energy, feel great, drinking water all day, eating a plant-based diet and even bought some of Engine2's products at Whole Foods.

My figuring is after watching that documentary, I don't know how I could ever go back to the way I ate before. I'm in this for the long run.

I use to have high blood pressure: 148/108. Went on the Engine 2 diet and added juicing and my last blood pressure check was 116/64. HUGE DIFFERENCE! However, there is one addition that I have removed and that is wheat or any bread for that matter as it has been genetically modified causing inflammation in the intestines. I now make my own bread using just three ingredients: Almond flour, tapioca flour, whole fat coconut milk.

Rules - that is awesome, man!!! Big congrats.

I realized that my boy is 9 months - and growing. I asked myself "Am I doing everything in my power to make sure I'm going to be around for the long haul?". It just made sense after re-watching that documentary, it MUST be this way - I MUST be plant-strong because everything else IS GOING TO KILL ME; and if I say I want to be around - then damnit, I'm not going to turn around and do something that WILL KILL ME.

That is the reality, and I can only hope and pray that more people ask themselves that question everyday.

Mind sending me the directions on making the bread?

Yeah, I'd like to know the bread recipe, too, as I have eliminated Gluten from my diet.

I've recently been reading that overhead presses can be very bad for your shoulders.
Expert Eric Cressey has stated that only a small percentage of people have the genetics to handle this movement without causing damage.

I love the overhead press (standing or sitting) but I do worry that I'm going to run into issues down the road.
I may have already. Years ago I could bang out 70+ pushups without any pain or discomfort.
I graduated to weights and now, I have terrible stabbing pains in my shoulders if I try them.
I often wonder if the bench press caused that though. I would routinely go below 90d when lowering the weight and i know that puts a lot of pressure and tearing on the shoulder.

Yeah, I've heard just about every exercise is harmful at some point. I know a lot of people who developed shoulder pain from poor bench mechanics. Usually elbow placement. Trying to flair their elbows out too far.

As far as my shoulders, I've had no problems. The only exercise that gives me fits is skull crushers. I've seen so many variations I don't know wtf to do, and honestly it just puts strain on my elbow, and then when I attempt to 'tuck' my elbows in, it forces me to flex my delts and feels uncomfortable/unnatural. I stay away from it as I could find better exercises to complete.

Usually at the end of the month I deload and lift light to give my joints a rest.

Thanks for that recipe. We're thinking about doing the Paleo lifestyle. I don't know if I can make it to be honest

I'm on day 6 of P90X3. Had a car wreck, severe herniation of L5/S1 and Moderate Herniation of L2/L3. Working my way back, without their recommendation of seeing a neurologist/neurosurgeon.

Must be one of those years for me, I just cant stay healthy. I go from a sternum injury, to a stomach virus, to horrible *** allergies. Took Zyrtec which stopped my eyes from itching and swelling, but damn I feel like a bus ran me over. Hopefully this is the end of my pity party and I can start reporting some positive stuff soon.

I feel ya. As I mentioned a few pages back, I was just getting into a rhythm with my workouts and then was unable to do anything for a month. Just getting back into it now. Nothing worse than when you are motivated to do something and as much as you want to, your body just won't let you do what you want it to.
