    Re: 2014 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Got in a nice 6-mile run today. Conditions were perfect; overcast skies, slight breeze and temp around 60.

Really liking my new shoes I picked up last week, Saucony Ride 7's. Good neutral shoe that isn't too heavy. Fits my foot great and makes for a smooth run.

Going to get one of my bikes out tomorrow and go for a ride, as the weather should be similar to today's conditions.

Anybody use the P90x or similar workouts? Thinking about switching up my Insanity after I finish this round to build a little bit of muscle mass since I've toned/leaned up quite a bit with Insanity.

Funny you mentioned P90x as I was going to start it tomorrow. Haven't used it in two years. Did P90x, Insanity and a few others. Time to go back and pack on some more muscle.

I'm down about 20 pounds over the past 3 months. Basically, all I've been doing is cutting out fast foods and diet sodas. Also, I try to avoid carbs as much as possible. I've cut out cereals, pastas and potatoes (other than the occasional sweet potato) during the week.

I certainly could be down more, but I'm still a fatty at heart so I still eat pretty bad on the weekends. Not nearly as bad as I used to, but I could definitely do better.

That's great! Pretty amazing how eliminating a couple of things from our diet can have such an impact.

I'm down almost 10 pounds myself. I've been getting in 4-5 workouts a week (run 2-3 times, lift 1-2 times and ride my mountain/hybrid bike once) with no real plan, just doing whatever activity strikes me that day. Two weeks ago I ran 3 times in a week. This week I've found myself going to the gym more. As long as I'm doing something, I'm happy.

Took me a few minutes to figure out what HMU stood for.

My newly appearing carpal tunnel is starting to hinder my lifting. Anybody else deal with it and lift heavy? I'm not sure how to deal with it yet.

                      Re: 2014 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Finished up my first round of p90x3. I had been on the 3rd phase for about 2 months due to a combo of vacation and being sick. Finally got a good solid week in before going into the last recovery week. My physical measurements were all pretty much the exact same. I lost 5 pounds in the first couple weeks and that stayed steady throughout (which I wanted). My fit test numbers were all higher, but not where I wanted them to be after four months of work. I was however happy to see my vertical had increased by 3 inches. It's sad that I am 6'2" with shoes on and can't get rim -_-

I think I just need to eat more and get more protein in my diet. I use the p90x recovery drink, but it only provides 10 extra grams of protein. Probably just going to go with the #1 seller on Amazon and see how I like it - http://www.amazon.com/BSN-SYNTHA-6-P...protein+powder - I know I've asked this before, but if anyone can suggest an alternative that comes out to $1/serving or less I'm all ears.

I'm starting another round, but this time doing the doubles schedule. It's not every day the first two months, but the last month I believe it's a double workout at least 5 days a week.

                        Super, have you done Insanity?

I'm thinking about picking up P90x after my current round of Insanity and was wondering how the difference would be.

I'm curious as to why some of you guys don't just lift weights at the gym? Time? Money? I'm not knocking Insanity or P90X, so please don't take it that way.

In other news, got another 6-mile run in after work last night. Conditions were near-perfect with overcast skies and temps around 65 degrees. Looking forward to getting a couple of runs in during my vacation to Washington D.C. (leave on Thursday).

Lifting just got boring to me honestly. I did it in high-school and once I moved I didn't really have as much space to spread out so I switched up to Insanity. Leaned up for the first time in my life. It felt good.

Yes and yes. Pay $35+ dollars a month at most gyms (if you commit to a year or else it's more in my experience). Time spent at the gym versus the amount of work you get done I imagine is probably pretty bad. On the workout I did today I did 150 reps total of a variety of push ups and pull ups in 30 minutes.

P90X involves weight lifting, pull ups, and push ups. I haven't done every single Insanity video, but there are no physical dumb bell type weights are there?

There are some workouts that are like Insanity where your body and gravity are the tool, and others where it's weights and pull ups.

I think p90x has more range. I'm sure you cardio after Insanity is better, but after p90x you will be much stronger overall.

Syntha-6 tastes amazing. If your goal is to lose weight, be careful as it is higher in calories than most protein powders. You might can find a better price as well. I remember buying that exact thing for around $23 on Amazon a while back.

Found it for a little over $28 shipped on Vitamin World if you want to save a couple bucks.
