    Airline Buddy Passes

Has anyone ever flown on these. I ask because someone wants to sell me one for $125 and I'm wondering if this type of thing is the norm?

My son is flying from Fresno Ca to Norfolk Va this Saturday and ticket prices are over $500 so I figured this might not be a bad idea but I need to know from anyone with exp doing this

I think they usually can only be given to 1 person per year, at least I think that is how the airline employees ones work.

You also are usually flying only if there are seats open on the flight. So you may be bumped from the flight if someone wants to pay for a seat.

They get more than 1 per year....

To the OP, I would be vary cautious in purchasing buddy passes. Either it is a scam or the employee selling them can get in a lot of trouble. I've flown several times on BPs and never missed a flight due to it being full, but I would travel in a day you could afford to be flexible in time of departure and arrival at your destination

You aren't allowed to sell buddy passes, as far as I know.

Also, you're going to be flying space-available and be the lowest of the low when it comes to standby since you will be below all the other non-revs (employees, family members of employees, etc.).

My father is a pilot and I have flying privileges until I'm 26, so I have extensive experience flying stand-by for free. It's nice, but flying space-available can be really nerve-wracking sometimes, and sometimes you don't get on the flight. And I generally have good priority, too, since my father is a 28-year veteran at the airline. I've flown a lot domestically and a decent amount internationally on standby.
