Re: The annual OS Christmas thread 2021

Put the tree up the day after Thanksgiving. It's a new fiber optic one and it's pretty awesome.

I always get more excited for Christmas eve than day. That was when all my family on my dad's side got together when I was a kid. We would celebrate at my grandma's and grandpa's house. They had an awesome finished basement. I would get to open all my presents from that side of the family that night.

Now that I'm older, and my grandparents are gone, my sister lives in Texas, so she only comes up here every other year or so, we still try to do something Christmas eve, even if it's just with my parents. And even they go to Texas to be with my sister pretty much every other year.

But the best part is we've always kept the Eve dinner tradition. We are Italian and have always had mushroom soup, spaghetti with white clam sauce, fried fish and fried shrimp. This probably seems weird to a lot of people. Just going off what people tell me when I tell them what we eat lol. But it's a tradition going back to my grandfather in Italy.

Even though it's just gonna be my wife, parents and my aunt and cousin this year, I'm still excited for it.

If by "weird" you mean "awesome", then yes, it sounds weird. Very, very weird!

Anyone else wait until the first week of December to fully decorate like I did? LOL.

Re: The annual OS Christmas thread 2021

Christmas is approaching at Warp Speed this year. We have had everything decorated since November 3rd, which is 2 days late for us. I want everything to slow down. I enjoy this time of year so much, I never want it to end.

Christmas Eve is my favourite night of the year. The bell still rings for me and I don't mean my tinnitus. Having kids has amped everything up to 11. Their excitement makes me happy. I understand my Dad so much more now. He and I both love buy gifts for people and I have continued his tradition of buying a few gifts that my wife doesn't know about for the kids. He would always buy a few extra thing for me and my sisters and my Mom would give him that look. Now I get a very similar look from Trina.

I love when it snows on Christmas Eve. There is nothing better than a white Christmas. The snow amplifies the magic. The world slows down a little and it's a bit quieter. So very peaceful.

Well, gentlemen, I'm off to go hide our Elf on the Shelf.

As far as I'm concerned Christmas (or at the very least the Christmas "spirit") starts on November 1st :P

The elf has been crazy this year. We try to capture the moment my son finds where he is every morning, probably make a whole highlight reel out of it. The unbridled joy and excitement when he finds him and what he’s gotten himself in to is everything. The greatest feeling in the world.

This is exactly how my wife and I feel. Trina wakes up with the kids so she see the initial reaction when they find the elf, and when I get up, the kids give me the complete play by play breakdown of what they saw. It's adorable.

Tonight we watched Twas The Night Before Christmas the Rankin Bass half hour special. It's my absolute favourite. It was nice watching it with the family.

Put our tree up on Saturday night. Just doing lights on it because the 1 year old will be constantly pulling ornaments off it. Still looks pretty lit up at night.

Our soon to be 5 year old in January is so excited. He totally gets Christmas and the reminders of "Santa is watching" is working when he won't listen.

The 1 year old is just excited to tear up wrapping paper.

Was channel surfing this morning looking for X-mas shows/movies. Had to laugh at this. Whoever is responsible for typing the show descriptions surely hasn't seen Home Alone before.

I suppose it's not entirely inaccurate, if you think about it...

Thinking about it as a documentary is kind of interesting

True Crime. That is hilarious. I've watched 3 versions of A Christmas Carol this past week. I am about to start The Muppets Christmas Carol when my wife is finished putting the kids to bed. It is definitely a must watch every year and it is in my top 3 Christmas Specials.

1.) T'was The Night Before Christmas (The animated special)
                          2.) Muppet Christmas Carol
                          3.) Charlie Brown Christmas

I love damn near every Christmas special so it is hard to choose the third spot. Number 1 and 2 are written in stone. What are you "MUST SEE" Christmas special or what is your top 3?

Wow, 3 is extremely difficult. I have so many favorites.

1)Scrooge/A Christmas Carol - 1951 Alastair Sim (Black & White Version)
                            2)National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
                            3)A Christmas Story

Also a must see every year in no particular order:

                            The Polar Express
                            Elf
Home Alone 1&2 (All the other Home Alone's are painful to watch, the newest one on Disney Plus is just pathetic).
                            The Star
Rankin/Bass TV Specials - Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus is Comin' To Town, Frosty The Snowman (Don't care for Frosty Returns with John Goodman) & 'Twas the Night Before Christmas.
                            The Muppet Christmas Carol
And one of my son's favorite animated films, The Flight Before Christmas. It's a Finnish animated film. The American version stars Norm Macdonald and Emma Roberts. We picked it up probably 8 years ago out of a bargain bin for a couple of bucks from Giant Tiger. He's loved it ever since!

Every year I watch Christmas movies I always think of the biggest flaw ever.

So if the parents don't believe in Santa, who brings their kids presents?!

Do they just wake up and are like "Yes, we did all that. We don't believe in Santa, but that gift that randomly showed up overnight was us."

The fish and shrimp has been ordered and will be ready to pickup Christmas Eve. Parents decided to make homemade spaghetti for ever, and homemade beef and cheese ravioli for day.

What sucks, is my wife works eve form 7p-7a. The she is of Christmas day but is on-call. So I bet she will have to go in. Same thing last year and she had to go in. Good news is, she has an interview next week at our local hospital which is affiliated with the Cleveland Clinic. If she gets the job, it would be Mon-Fri 7am to 3:30 pm with every weekend off. I really hope she gets it. She works 3-4 12 hour shifts now and only every other weekend off. She's just burned out with these hours and what goes on where she works.
