So basically $115,000/week. Pretty damn good and more than we were offering before.

I agree, though, if he we offer it to him and he turns it down, he has to go.

Not surprising at all. It's going to take more than that to get him or a CB in general.

        At least we're bidding.

However, we look like twats, considering last year we offered £12 million and had it turned down.

We haven't looked like anything else so far this window. Still hoping for a decent end to the month.

I've already un-crossed my fingers and have succumbed to the fact that the team we have now... is the team we will start the season with.

            Hope I'm wrong.

But he has gone through one more year of playing and aging since then, so his value is obviously less...

I think we eventually buy a defender. Even if after the season, when perhaps a team will gladly take the money we offer as it's their last shot.

I believe the term you're looking for is "wear and tear".

We were apparently given the go ahead from Valencia to pursue Juan Mata. Let's hope we can bring him in for £22M or less.

If that's true, then I would think it means we're selling Nasri. If that means to someone outside of England, I'd be completely fine with all of this.

                      I'm sure we'll **** it up somehow.

My #1 concern is still a CB.

If we lost Nasri and didn't replace him, I think we could get by. When I say get by, I mean at least finish in 4th, not challenge for the title.

However, without a change in defense, we'll see the exact same issues as last season. 4-0 turning into a 4-4, for example.

Exactly, and if we don't bring anyone in, we'll probably hear the same old BS from Wenger that Vermaelen is like a new signing and this team is good enough to win it all. The problem is, people have long since stopped believing that line. We need defense, and we need it now.

He actually said that already...yeah, sucks.

However, we're still bidding on CB's, so it seems like we'll still bring one in. Plus, I think he said the line about Vermaelen when talking about how he could fill in at LB.

V5 at LB is taking a step backwards and i hope that doesnt happen. 2 biggest needs are CB depth and a starting LB.
i am actually looking forward to Johan and V5 starting in the middle.

Yeah, he originally said it about TVM5 at left back. And yes, we are bidding so I am optimistic we sign someone, but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if this was it, and Gervinho was our only signing of note.
