As excited as I am about Ozil, I'm still a little worried Giroud has no real backup until Podolski is fit. Also, we still only have three CBs who seem capable of playing in the EPL. Sorry, Miquel.

I just feel like that is a crap load of money for one player and it is just a shocker to see Arsenal splash so much on him when they have been so stingy with others in the past. It just doesn't seem real to me.
You're not sounding defensive at all. You're right. It is a lot of money, but I think he'll be well worth it. He had fitness issues but last season he finished a lot of games and he became much fitter at Real. I don't see that as a huge concern.

I think Wenger was holding out for this type of player when he was getting defensive about not spending money. It is a ton of cash, but in my mind he had to buy Ozil. He's one of the best players in the world and whole other areas need to be addressed I see this as a potential beginning for the club to finally start spending the money. At the beginning of the summer it was Rooney, Higuain, and Suarez. The fact we ended up with Ozil is fantasy. I still can't believe it

Rosicky, Wilshere, Arteta, Ramsey, Cazorla, Flamini, Diaby, and Ozil. Man...I like those options.

          Read that somewhere:

AW sold Gervinho to Roma so Roma could sell Lamela to Spurs who could sell Bale to Madrid who could sell Ozil to Arsenal..

Don't think he meant to do that but it's pretty cool.

Sucks we didn't get Demba Ba, but I'm still over the freaking moon that we got Ozil. We addressed every need accept striker and CB. But I get what Arsense is thinking. If Ozil and Carzola can hold the ball that takes so much pressure off of Arteta, Flamini and Diaby in the deeper position and off the central defenders

So with Ozil in the fold, are we still gonna roll with the 4-3-3 or will we change it up. Hell, who starts when everyone is healthy again

I would call what we've been playing a 4-2-3-1, which I'm sure we'd stick with. Ozil will just drop in behind the striker. If everyone is healthy, I imagine this:

                  GK: SZCZ
                  RB: Sagna
                  CB: Mertesacker
                  CB: Koscielny
                  LB: Gibbs
                  CM: Arteta
                  CM: Wilshere/Ramsey
                  RM: Walcott
                  AM: Ozil
                  LM: Cazorla
                  ST: Giroud/Podolski

^ Looks a friggin' good lineup to me!

So with Bendtner staying do you think Wenger will actually use him with Podolski injured? I would think he would as he didn't bring another ST into the club. An injury to Giroud would be devastating.

My opinion: Bendtner will play some games in the cup competitions (or come off the bench) to ensure Giroud isn't out there too many minutes. But I think in a big game, he'd be more apt to slide Walcott to ST (Podolski once healthy) than play Bendtner.

Agreed. He'll be used since he's a the club and we're low in that depth.

I guess he just had a surgery of some kind, though, so he won't be playing in the near future.

                        EDIT: Just saw this: http://news.arseblog.com/2013/09/ben...ses-statement/

Seems that perhaps we purposely kept Bendtner since we couldn't land another striker.

From what I was reading and watching from Deadline day yesterday it appears they told him to come back from Crystal Palace late last night. He had his medical but once Chelsea refused to loan Demba Ba to one of their rivals they told Bendtner to come home.

                            Great piece by Raphael Honigstein.

Mesut Ozil will be the star attraction at Arsenal, his home from home
Mesut Ozil will find a team playing his brand of football, two international team-mates to keep him company and a manager who can explain his ideas in German

Also interesting to see just how long Wenger has had his eye on Ozil. First tried to sign him seven years ago before he went to Werder Bremen.

Wenger told reporters: "A day after beating Spurs and their £100 million worth of new signings with what the critics saw as an inferior squad, I went behind their back to sign Mesut freaking Ozil from a club with whom they have a 'partnership agreement' just before the close of the window. Even Manchester United could not execute a Jedi move like that. For this reason, everyone must now refer to me as The Lord of the Transfer. Including my wife."
