The Telegraph is reporting that Gabriel's work permit is good to go, an he's currently receiving a medical.

this is phenomenal. I don't even care if Paulista is worse than Squillaci, at least an effort was made to improve our back line situation. baby steps

Oh gosh please dont bring Squillaci up, nightmares!

Also hearing that Kevin Grosskreutz is to be signed next, is this true? This would be weird since he is cup tied.

          It's official!

Arsenal have signed Brazilian defender Gabriel from Villarreal, with Joel Campbell agreeing a new long-term deal prior to a loan move to the La Liga side. Primarily a centre back, 6ft 1in Gabriel (full name Gabriel Armando de Abreu) can also play at left back or right back. This season the 24-year-old was an ever present in the Villarreal side that conceded just 17 goals in their first 19 La Liga matches and has gone 18 games unbeaten.

I can't believe we finally have some defensive cover. The fact that he can apparently comfortably play anywhere in the back four is wonderful to hear.

It's great we didn't haggle. We made an offer close to the valuation and got our guy. I'm happy, so now let's see what this guy can do.

Interesting how the work permit process works. Juan Agudelo gets denied twice but this guy has no problem.

I'm not knocking Gabriel, but I think the appeal process needs some tweaking.

I found this bit from Arseblog quite amusing:

It means that we’ve managed to turn what could have been a very complicated deal into one which has gone through with the minimum of fuss. There was no haggling over the fee, no offering Villarreal thruppence ha’apenny and asking them for a hamburger today which we would gladly pay for next Tuesday

That was a fun game to watch.

Also I have to applaud Wenger for switching things up in the second half even allowing Aston Villa to win the possession battle to go on the counter, simple but brilliant especially since the struggle could have easily turned into a 1 goal struggle win.

Totally could have named our score today. Villa are dumpster fire right now and we did what we needed to do. Liked that we were able to get Chuba some playing time so that he'll sign a new deal.

Massive match at Spurs next week. Can't remember ever seeing both sides on such good form coming into the North London derby. Gonna be a fun one!

Yeah, people criticize him, but it's flicks like that which show how much better we are when he is in the side.

Also, I'm loving that we are trying to play more counter attacking football too. Santi dropping deep to help collect loose balls around our box and getting the attack going has been really nice to see. Plus with Welbeck, Walcott, Alexis in the side we can be devestating on the counter if we can stay compact, disciplined and organized. Haven't seen Arsene use these tactics since that 20001-2005 period when we were lethal on the counter.

But if this is going to be the new way of doing things and we are not going to focus on possession as much, we damn sure better get a world class DM in to get the counters started.

Also Chuba Akpom signed his new deal!! Coquelin should be done soon. Just leaves Theo and Arteta left to finish before the end of the season.

What a frustrating match. Arsenal just couldn't get the ball under control at all, and Koscielny barely jumped when trying to defend the match winning header. Ugh.
