If it falls apart now, I think it'll be pretty surprising. If anything, it might prove to be more of a Spurs missed their shot as it took them too long to get their offer together. Right now, to me this appears more of a "what took so long, Spurs?" and less of an "oh geez, Arsenal" type of moment.

Just because another club runs into negotiations at the last second doesn't mean we haven't been doing what we should be doing. The deal is in the final stages, he's agreed to terms—I don't buy the whole Spurs can wrap up a deal in two days that took us two weeks—this **** takes time, regardless of what sensational transfer season stories say.
Yeah, that Spurs talk didn't mean a damn thing in the end. To me, this deal shows that we now have people at the club who know what they're doing in regards to transfers. They're limited by money, but they're not Dick Law and Gazidis.

Ornstein confirmed our initial interest in Saliba started last Autumn, and in February/March we were already moving for him perhaps, or at least in talks. We didn't suddenly talk to him in the Summer—it took time, as things do.

As I said above, the idea that Spurs would swoop in and steal a deal from us which we'd been working on for months, including the player agreeing to join us was ridiculous. Arsenal transfer stories get clicks—it was always going to be played up to an absurd degree. I'm not saying a player wouldn't want to join Spurs, but they're not switching over that quickly after we'd been in talks for weeks if not months with the player. Spurs are not the kind of club who can steal a transfer from us that quickly—and they never will be, heh.

I have zero faith in the ownership right now, but I do have faith in what Edu and Raul are doing/can do with the limited resources given to them.

Reports that Ceballos was "very close" to joining Spurs, but Emery was a huge factor in him joining us.

Now, that's the type of deal Spurs could take from us—one where we haven't laid the foundation for months. In the end it looks like we may have taken the deal from them, as he met with Spurs before the U-21 championships.

        Keep using that rolodex, Raul.

Which is interesting considering Raul’s former employer. You figure there wouldn’t be much of a relationship there.

Yeah, that man has schmoozed with all the schoomzers of Spain. As long as he's there I think we'll be doing lots of business in Spain.

I really thought Kolasanic would kick one of them. Xhaka for sure would have.

                  Glad they’re both safe though.

Xhaka would've gone in two foot studs up on one of them, then complained if he got a fine.

Mustafi would've just looked bewildered and raised his hand.

He would've used Ozil's wife as a human shield.

Arsenal fans should be excited if Pepe happens but I still don't see this greatly improving Arsenal this season. The defense has not improved and the attack was never a big concern for Arsenal.

A top CB and a new LB were needed before an £80m winger.

                                1. Our attack greatly fizzled at the end of the season. We need depth and we need different options. Pepe + Ceballos both help with this.

                                2. I still think Tierney gets done, that door has not shut at all as of now.

                                3. It’s been reported for weeks we’re still looking at signing a CB—there’s still plenty of time.

                                4. Everyone forgets that our defense suffered once we lost Holding. He’ll be back this year, which will help.

The signings we’ve made will unquestionably improve this squad. We’re not challenging for a title, but we’re greatly helping our chances of getting back into the Champions League, which is our first priority.

If you don’t think the moves we’ve made do not improve the team, that means you didn’t watch a lot of Arsenal last season. Our attack was fairly toothless down the stretch and by no means was carrying us.
