Re: The 2015-2016 EPL Discussion Thread
Some of those passes that Arsenal had out of their own end....woof
But I've seen this movie before. Arsenal will put together 10 really good minutes and score 2 to win 2-0.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 08-24-2015, 03:01 PM.Comment

It was unlucky but that's a very tight call. You could just as easily say that Liverpool were unlucky to hit the post or unlucky that Cech played a blinderComment

But hitting the post isn't the result of referee error, as opposed to Arsenal having a goal wrongly disallowed.
The fact is, a draw was probably the most fair result given the performance of both teams, but a player hitting the post is in no-way comparable to the ref blowing a call that takes away a goal. In one, a player shoots just too far wide when he should have scored, or the defender gets there just in time to deflect the ball off the post, etc. In the other, a player does score, but the ref messes up and the goal doesn't count. One is way worse than the other.Comment

I wasn't saying hitting the post makes the offside decision ok, just that they are comparable because they both have an element of bad luck. But hitting the post isn't the result of referee error, as opposed to Arsenal having a goal wrongly disallowed.

There is a whole weird stigma with the word luck. They say that in order to be successful at anything you need equal parts talent/hard work/luck. Successful people play down the luck part because they feel it devalues their success. It definitely doesn't devalue it, but you still need it.
So yes it was bad luck that the offside call went against you, but at the same time, the way your team was playing in the first half, they were very lucky to not be down 2 or 3 goals. There was definitely an element of luck in Petr making that save, hell, I've personally seen him fail to make that save.
Anyway, I wouldn't worry, Arsenal will get some ridiculous calls in their favor later in the season that will result in points gained.Comment

No need, we just need to clone Sian a few dozen times and then fire everybody else.Comment
