It's funny. When I first heard about it this morning, I was expecting mass hysteria from the supporters. But after spending the day reading blog comments and message boards, a lot aren't that upset. I don't necessarily think that people believe United is better off with him gone, but I think many feel his act had finally gone stale. It's emotionally draining to have your best player constantly flirting with another club. Combine that with the over the top antics he had started to pull towards the end of the season and people had had enough.
As for the upcoming season, I think United's attack will become a much more balanced one. I think it had become easy to defend against United because they had become overly reliant on Ronaldo to score goals. I would say that is part of the reason why they ended up grinding out so many 1-0 results.
I think if United bring in a quality winger and another striker, along with playing Rooney and Berbatov in their favored positions, I don't see why they shouldn't be able to replace the goals.
