PGA Tour 2K25 Dev Diary 3 - Seasons & Clubhouse Pass

    - Seasons run 12 weeks.
    - New Evo tiers for clubs are added each season...Mizuno irons were shown to have an Evo tier above Sapphire.
    - Each season will have a specific focus on an archetype - season 1's focus is Technician.
    - Season 1 of the Clubhouse Pass looks to have Mizuno clubs, Malbon, FootJoy and adidas clothing, Callaway golf balls, Oakley sunglasses, and more.
    - CHPs have 100 reward levels, with 34 being on the Free tier.
    - The Thai Spinner shot type is on the Free tier of Season 1's CHP, and is at level 25.
    - The final reward of Season 1's CHP looks to be a limited edition Mizuno ST-G 440 driver at Emerald level.
    - Clubhouse Passes never expire.

PGA TOUR 2K25 upgrades the Clubhouse Pass for easier, more meaningful progression for your MyPLAYER. Each season brings fresh cosmetics, items, and more.

Looking forward to game but I despise the whole concept of Clubhouse passes.

Not a fan of them putting the gameplay boosts and "legendary" clubs behind the playwall...that's for sure.

This sums up some of the worries with the way they're doing CHPs in 2K25: https://youtu.be/bGXJ6Pd93ug?si=VBmntoWxU1uPvP7l

If im understand it right, the membership pass we’re you get all five season might be the best cost cutting way. Though they didn’t say if it was a monthly or one time payment.

The Member's Pass is a one-time payment...you can buy it for $40. It's also included with the Legend Edition...so yes, if you bought the legend edition, you'll get seasons 1-5 at no additional cost.

Each CHP season is available individually for $10 each.

$40 for 500 tiers of content is not a bad deal.

Meanwhile a game like COD you’re shelling out $30 every season for premium content.

Don't disagree that you're getting a decent amount of content for the cost.

My issue is that there are items and boosts that offer fairly substantial gameplay advantages that are only available in the paid tier. There's no path (at least they haven't shown one) for getting these items by grinding or earning them.

The legendary driver in particular seems like a huge benefit to those who pay for the pass. It will never lose the fittings you attach to it, and it looks like it already starts at Emerald level.

This is a pretty sizeable shift to the PTW side of things...their CHPs previously only contained cosmetics or things you could earn by simply playing.

The legendary clubs also seemed to have pre-set fittings (have to level up the club to unlock them) and higher boosts by default than regular clubs (+4 as opposed to +2). And as previously stated they don’t lose fittings when Evo’d.

Definitely echo the sentiments about legendary clubs and shot type boosts in the paid tier being worrying, competitive boosts in the paid tier are pay-to-win. The Evo tiers changing as time goes on doesn’t sound good either. I heard from Respawn that the CHP shot types would be more fun and situational, hopefully that is the case and they don’t end up being OP cause I would hate that. The Thai Spinner seems like an easier-to-handle chip at first glance which I’m not sure necessarily fits that bill.

EA definitely did their battle pass a lot better, the paid tier was mainly just cosmetics and a couple good specs, but the free tier had rewards at every level and a legendary spec at the end which made it have some value. Granted I agree that battle passes are usually just vehicles to implement more pay-to-win features in a game. I’m at least glad that golf games are less attribute-based and more pure skill-based compared to 2K’s other sports games so any pay-to-win stuff doesn’t have as much of a negative impact imo.

SupremeBinkz goes through all the items in Season 1 of the pass, if you're interested: https://youtu.be/ODkCjlXGxPQ?si=RG_e_r_xpa-_k7IY

Just a few things I noted:

At Tier 50, there are Mizuno irons that start at Emerald level as well...that means they bypass the "Core" level and start one Evo above it, getting +4 fitting boosts right off the bat. There are Mizuno wedges at Tier 74 that begin at Emerald, too, and Mizuno fairway woods with the same setup at Tier 85.

It kind of had to be expected, had to pay for those extra licenses of the 3 Majors. There's no ultimate team in golf, this premium pass is their answer to have customers buying ultimate packs. For those of us just playing career mode and not much else, we couldn't care less.

That's fair, but they had Premium levels in their previous games' Clubhouse Passes, too. The passes in 2K21 and 2K23 didn't have gameplay boosts behind the paywall, though.

Also, Respawn drops a video on the CHP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2_yzcUDTQg

Respawn said in the video that - maybe, potentially - you can get access to limited edition legendary clubs in another way...intriguing.

In the previous games, they didn't sell it only for current generation consoles. They had all those extra sales for the old consoles. And now, it's 3 extra licenses they're paying for the Majors. There's not much choice if you want to play competitive, and it's not like there's EA as competition either. 2K is going to do whatever they want to maximize PGA 2K, the golf market is all theirs.

So them saying the technician is the focus for season one, does that mean only the technician can do the Thai Spinner, or can any archetype use that shot?

That's a good question...not sure anyone said specifically in the videos released yesterday. Although, looking at the footage captured by Respawn, no specific requirements were shown on the Thai Spinner shot type description to say it could only be applied to Technicians.
