    Top ten golf games

What would be your list of the ten golf games that have given you the most fun. For me:

    1. PGA2000(PC)- I spent more hours having fun with this one than any other game(not just golf). To me it had the best shot set up and swing method(True Swing) of any golf sim. Best customizable season play of any sim. Great add on courses.
    2. JN6(PC)- If it had a better mouse swing method, it'd be very close to PGA for me. Incredible amount of quality courses.
3.PGA Tour Golf 486(PC)- I thought this game was the bomb when it came out. Great graphics for the time with real pros and courses.
4.Links 2003(PC)- Great graphics, solid mouse swing, incredible looking custom courses(although you have to pay for some). Best feature for me was the customisable audio.DL'd commentary file and get to listen to real TV style audio. Horrible season mode though.
5.PGA Tour Golf (SNES)- Spent alot of hours with this one. Horrible graphics but offered more real courses than any other game at the time.
6.TW2005(PC)- To me, the best Headgate offering on the TW series. The last to have the features I wanted(simple 4 round tourney and complete customisable season mode) and not the ones I didn't(having to jump trhough hoops to improve my golfer).
7.TW2007(XBox360)- Solid game play and BY FAR the best graphics for console TW series. Just wish I didn't have to buy a hat or pants that improve my skill level. To me that is just dumb.
8.TW2007(PC)- Best True Swing effort from HeadGate on the TW series. Solid and smooth graphics. If it had the customisable season of PGA2000, it'd probably be 2 or 3 on my list.
    9. Links2004(XBox)- Playing this game on the 360 and the graphics are just a notch below TW2007 to me. IMHO the swing method is the best of any console golf game.
    10. Links2000(PC)- Flat picture perfect graphics and nice click swing.

P.S. Man I miss The Course Depot where threads like this were common place.

    Re: Top ten golf games

Mine will look somewhat similar to yours. How did PGA Tour on the SNES compare to the same game on the Genesis?

1.) PGA Championship Golf 2000 - it still has more undefinable character than any other golf game... not even close.

2.) PGA Championship Golf 1999 - I had to add it because once Headgate did the patch that included the real time, snap-view... this game turned into what I wanted. Best patch in the history of gaming, IMO.

3.) Jack Nicklaus Golf 6 - amazing what the course architects did with this game. They manipulated it to be something greater than it was designed to be. Still the best multiplayer online interface with its "Ready Play" feature. Why can't broadband golf games of 2007 play as good as the dialup games of 1999!?

4.) PGA Tour Golf (Genesis) - this one introduced backspin, snap-views, and an interesting grid for reading slope. It was as playable a golf game as I can recall.

5.) PGA Tour Golf - Playstation - The "next-gen' version of #4. Played just as great with 3-D topography and beautiful graphics (for the time). It got worse with each successive version though, although some would argue that Tiger Woods 2000 was better. TW 2000 lost something for me, on the Playstation at least.

6.) Tiger Woods 2004 (PC) - this was the last version of Tiger Woods golf that I truly enjoyed for a long time on the PC. The customizable offline season was superb and the gameplay felt great. It did a good job of upgrading TW 2003 courses as well.

7.) Links Golf 2004 - XBox - still my favorite console golf game on consoles that I still have operating, although it gets played less than TW 2007 XBox 360 now. That's because the online presence isn't nearly as formidable.

8.) Tiger Woods 2000 (PC): It had a magic quality that defied description, although it was technically lacking compared to the Links golf games of the time.

9.) Tiger Woods 2007 (XBox 360) - TrueAiming, and the best looking console graphics ever carry it. Still nowhere near what I have envisioned for next-gen golf though.

10.) Links 386 - SVGA graphics transformed it into the elegant look that golf deserved... far better looking than Links VGA. The looks didn't make up for the lack of backspin though in the long run.

Didn't play the game on Genisis but from what I remeber of seeing it, the graphics were much better on the Sega version.

Thank you, I know that. I'm saying the graphics were better on the Genesis compared to the SNES version. Kind of like if i'd said " I've never driven a Mustang but from what I remember, the Ford was more powerfull" when comparing it to a Chevy whatever.

              Re: Top ten golf games

The ready golf feature in JN6 really made online play for that game. I played at least 300 rounds of that game in the three year span between when I got it and when I finally broke down and joined the Tiger Woods club. It's still very playable too... it kills an occassional half hour of dead time at the office these days. It's easily one of my favorite games.

Back in the day I played PGA Tour Golf II on the Genesis. I played the heck out of that too because it was a relatively tough game for a golf game. Then there was Mario Golf. A few of my friends played it so I got my use out of that.

Of golf games that I've played a ton:

              Jack Nicklaus 6 (PC)
              Tiger Woods 2004, 2007 (PC)
              PGA Tour Golf II (Genesis)
              Mario Golf (N64)
              Links LS '98 (PC)
              NES Open (NES)
              Microsoft Golf 2.0 (PC)

In order from best to worst, and the worst on there wasn't bad by any stretch. I wish a new PC golf game would come out other than Tiger.

Ready Golf remains the most brilliant implementation of online multiplayer play I've ever seen. It didn't make me feel rushed, or that I was missing anything. It also afforded me the chance to send text chat while watching the other players play their shots. UTour Golf (mentioned in another thread I just started here) uses something much like it, but it places too much emphasis on time. If a match results in a tie in UTour Golf, the player using the least amount of clock time win the match!?

Oddly enough, I never picked up PGA Tour Golf II, as much as I enjoyed PGA Tour. I think I had moved into computer gaming by the time it came out.

I never played or even saw Mario Golf. even though I have an N-64, or NES Open. I'd like to see what they were like now just for nostalgia.

I'm ashamed to admit that I've never played the coin-op version of Golden Tee. I thought the PC version was a little cheesy. I know I've missed something in not getting my hands on the coin-op version though.

I have played Golden Tee once or twice but I have friends that go to the same bar and play dollar a hole all the time like their on a real course. Some people take that game real serious.

Doesn't the coin-op version use a full size rollerball for controlling the swing? I can see where that would be a real selling point for the game.

A game for my first computer, I think it was PGA Tour/Championship '94 or so. I was young, and would save my game after every shot to make sure I had a perfect round basically. I would dominate tournaments obviously haha. But that game was great, kept up with your earnings and everything.

then PGA Tour '98 on the PC again.

lastly Tiger Woods '04 ps2 which I didn't even play all that much
