Still to this day I think Tiger '99 on the PC was the best game. Online and off, witch the original Hot Shots on PS being a close second. Everything else has just been bland and not real challenging.

It wasn't even the best game that year, or within a year at least. It might have been fourth in that very range. PGA 2000, Links, and JN6 were better then. The newer Tiger PC games obviously beat their pants off but not then. -

Oh yeah! PGA2000!! I loved that game, and forgot about it. Didn't like Links or JN.
In regards to TW99, I just loved how EA Sports had weekly tournaments, and the power rankings on 'the ladder' . It was the best multi-player expierience I think. The ladder was awsome. And some Leagues had great Tournaments, and even Ryder Cups. There was just great overall participation for a long time.Comment

Best game was Pro Tour '93, but only because my buddies and I would play tournies Friday to Sunday non-stop, only stopping to catch a few hours sleep and to fill our stomachs with Coke and macaroni and cheese. Are you talking about PGA Tour Golf 3, which was released in '93 for the Sega Genesis? That was my favorite 16 bit console golf game of all time! PGA Tour 93 was the very first golf game I played, but we played it in the later half of the 90's. My friend had it for the Amiga 500 and that was the game that got me hooked to golf in general.
I remember learning how to play and as time went on moving slowly up the leader board in tounaments ... Then all of a sudden I was as good as my friend was and both of us were pushing for first place.
What I remember the most was the excitment we both had when making pressure putts ... I would scream out YEAH! then he would scream out YEAH!
I hav'ent had that dramatic pumping feeling since.
My fav is still Links04 for console and PGA Championship 2000 was also a big hit for me... TW 06 I have fun with too.Comment

I thought Hot Shots Golf 2 for the PS1 was incredible. I put so much time into that game. Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds for the PS3 is probably the best golf game, in my opinion, especially with the new swing mechanic.Comment

When the Jack Series began to fade so did my interest in golf sims. Links was in its heyday back in the mid nineties, but amassing all the course packs could cost you a fortune!
Ultimately a good golf game should be determined on:
- Physics Model Realism
- Consistency of shots so you can build a skill when shooting and the time you take to get good at shooting is reflected in your score. Not just anyone can pick up and play from day 1.
- Ease of online play and accessibility of opponents
- Powerful but accessible course designer since most sims lack a lot of really great courses like Augusta or Oakland Hills or Bethpage Black, etc.
- Graphics that are somewhat convincing that you're on a golf course and not in a digital world (for the platform on which it was designed!)
- The "one more round" factor where you cannot put it away.Comment
