Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

I will be headed out to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area for a week on October.

Champions Course at TPC Scottsdale, Talking Stick, Papago, and We-Ko-Pa are all on the itinerary.

Awesome itinerary. I've done TPC Scottsdale and We-Ko-Pa (I don't remember which course...Saguaro I think?). Both fun, both very different. TPC almost doesn't seem like desert golf at all, whereas We-Ko-Pa is very much quintessential desert golf. You will have fun.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Just got home from another pilgrimage to Pennsylvania this year. Apologies Kehlis.

Man was Oakmont pure. They have made some crazy changes to the courses. It’s going to be a wild US Open in 2025. Very much looks forward to it. It’s going to be a bloodbath with a lot of the additions, restoration, and changes they’ve made. We did stay in the new cottages built off the 18th green. Very cool spot.

That being said, yesterday I struggled on the front and shot 45. The transfusion at the then woke up the putter and started rolling the rock. Came in with a 38 for a smooth 83.

This morning I was a little slow to get up, after being at the casino in Pittsburgh late in the night. Got off to start with two pars, ended up shooting a 42/41 83. Putter was electric the latter 27 holes.

Avoided the church pew bunkers, which have had another pew added to them. I’ve now shot 83 in three consecutive rounds dating back to last year at Oakmont. While I felt I could have gone another lower, I’ll never complain about those scores.

Some views to go with.

Spoiler

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Question for the club builders here:

I recently cut a half inch off of my driver to get it down to 45.25 from 45.75.

Research tells me I need to add anywhere from 6-8 grams back to head. Can someone confirm or deny?

Thanks.

You have a few options here. Cutting 1/2" will reduce swingweight by 2-3 points. About 2 grams will move it one swingweight.

First, if you notice no difference, you can leave it as is. I'll be honest, I spend everyday handling golf clubs, I've yet to meet an amateur golfer who can feel the difference of two SW points.

Second, depending what grip you have on your club, you could simply go with a grip that is 5-6g lighter than what you have now and it will accomplish the same thing.

Thirdly, depending what driver you have, you could get a heavier weight if it's adjustable. Most manufacturers offer weights every 5g or so.

Lastly, lead tape can always do the trick.

I am currently gaming last years Rogue ST Max. Callaways website has the default SW at a D4. Shaft is a Fujikura Ventus Blue 5R (non-velocore).

Grip is a Golf Pride Tour Velvet +4.

I added about 6 grams of tape (1 inch equals 1 gram?) to the heel side for now. I also got an aftermarket weight from eBay. Also had to get a security torx set to get into the driver head.

Might have been placebo but I definitely felt the head a lot more. I’m playing tomorrow after work so I will report back with results.

So if you like the grip, then don't worry about that.

1" is 10-12g of weight needed back.

In theory cutting down the shaft and not adding weight would make it feel less head heavy. So definitely some placebo. But I'd tell you just add the weight in there and you're good.
