The OS Golfer's Thread!

My season will officially come to an end. Having knee surgery next week that will keep me off the course for 4-6 months. Hopefully I can get back out first part of March

I’ll spend my recovery playing video game golf and looking online for “necessary” upgrades to equipment that make amazing Christmas presents

Hit’em straight everyone!

Sorry to hear that, cb. Best wishes for everything going smoothly and uneventfully with the procedure, and looking forward to you getting back out there (hopefully better than ever) in the spring.

In the meantime, your video skills should have you winning majors at a Tiger/Jack-like clip in no time!

I started with my home course I grew up on, and finished with the club I played a good bit when I was still in Wisconsin, fired 79’s at both, but I’m the middle we sprinkled in Whistling Straits and the River Course at Blackwolf Run.

What a delight both courses are. Ive played both a few times before, but everyone I played with was getting their first look at them, so that was fun to be a part of. My pops even got to play the River course with us. It was my first time playing them in five years so it was a nice refresher.

The Straits course continues to be a gritty, grotesque, yet elegant and beautiful test of golf. The wind off the lake will always dictate how your round goes. Plenty of pros have called it the most brutal walk on tour, and that she is. Always known as a physical test, having to manipulate shots, especially through the back nine, based on the wind was an incredible time. Fired an 84, which I will absolutely take on that track.

Now comes the mental test of the group. The River Course is a true thinking course. Beautiful and flawless, immaculate greens. The perfect counterpart to Straits. The River is in the top three most difficult courses I’ve ever played, and it’s well deserved. Pete Dye must have been pissed off when he designed this track. But what a test she is. I followed up my 84 at Straits with another 84 here, which I will absolutely take.

I can not recommend this complex enough. To me it’s the second best golf trip you can make in this country, only to Bandon. The courses offer such contrast to each other and are such different tests in different ways. Two absolute musts to check off for any golf nut.

Some views.
84 at Whistling Straits and River is absolutely outstanding. What a trip!

I've played Arcadia Bluffs on the other side of the pond from Whistling Straits, and that was an amazing track. Hard as hell, too...I had a hard time keeping it under triple digits there. And I was hitting ball pretty well, too!

Get those rounds in, fellas. Much as I love football season, it usually signals that the end is near for golf....

Playing a quick 9 holes tomorrow night with my dad after work, and playing 18 with my brother-in-law Saturday while he's in town. Some rain in the forecast, but still have temps in the upper 70s the next few days here. Holding on to summer as long as possible...

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Played a lot less golf this year because of my new little snot rocket so it's been hard to get out. Last year I played around 40 rounds and am not close to this year.

Game has suffered a bit because of the inconsistency but this last weekend I was able to make our annual trip to Canton to close out our season and finished with an 85/84/85 and dropped my index by a stroke. I was closing to winning the tournament but it was impossible to compete with the 31 handicap golfer who had a good weekend.

I just wasn't used to playing that much golf in a short period of time. (27 holes Friday and Saturday, 18 on Sunday)

I will still get some fall golf in at some of the really nice courses around here when they drop their summer rates but was really gracious how my wife allowed me to get out with a newborn at home. Most of the courses I play are an hour away so that makes for very long days for her alone with the baby.

I appreciate the best wishes.

Im not sure my video game golf skills will ever reach those levels if early returns are any indication.

Let’s just say that I enjoy the robust scenery these virtual golf games provide because I see darn near every inch of it lol

Just got back from my pilgrimage up north. This time we played Arcadia Bluffs and their newer South course. Second time playing the Bluffs. I have a controversial take that it’s wildly overhyped because of the views, but it’s still solid. I fired an 86 at the Bluffs course. Wild was blowing all afternoon, making it a tough task.

I got to play the South course today. What a treat that was. Firm and fast as hell. Not very many courses similar to this. Very Sheep Ranch-esque. Loved it. An even better track. Got the putter going early, but forgot how to hit an iron for a stretch on the back nine. One of the guys in our group had an ace today. Fired a somewhat underwhelming 84, but won money, so I’ll take it.

Anyone ever visiting this complex, highly recommend staying in the cottages on site. Very sweet set up.

Some views.

The OS Golfer's Thread!

Was in Golf Galaxy this past Thursday and was surprised to see this. It was a no brainer for me. TaylorMade Stealth 2 Limited Edition Ryder Cup.
