Basically as long as you’re avoiding the things not related to your actual golfing ability that slow play down you’ll be fine.

While the range is good - it can’t simulate actually being out there and learning the true nuances.

For sure this is the case. Also, there are likely some courses that are more suitable/cater to new golfers in your area (e.g. a par 3 or more family-oriented course) where you'd be right at home. But if you follow kehlis' advice above - frankly, we could all use a reminder of those points from time to time - I doubt you will have issues at most any course in the world.

Most of golf etiquette really boils down to "be considerate of others on the course". Most everything after that are details.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

So today on the course I tried out the overlap/vardon grip because my right pinky finger was starting to hurt using the interlock grip, and holy **** was a difference it made.

Shot my second best round of the year with a 91. Makes me think my right hand was getting a little too active.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Im going to Ireland for a week at the end of August.

Does anyone have any recommendations of a course to play while I am there?

I will only be able to play once. I will be in Dublin for 3 days and then my wife and I are making our way towards the Ring of Kerry for 3-4 days.

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer!

Haven’t played it but all the Irish guys I know rave about the K-Club if you’re gonna be near Dublin.

EDIT: Forgot about Old Head.

I made this exact change for the exact reason you describe a couple of years ago. Like all grip things, it felt really weird for a while, but now I can't go back to interlock. I don't honestly remember how I ever interlocked before, as if I go back to it now, it just puts way too much stress on my pinkie finger.

Also, I feel like the interlock grip caused my right hand to get too far "underneath" the club, so the grip was sort of way too strong.

My only issue now is that new pressure points have developed using the overlap, but at least they are on the bigger fingers that are able to deal with it a bit better. With the interlock, I felt like my pinky finger was just going to break at some point LOL.

In the three rounds of tried out this grip, I have hit some of the best iron shots all season.

However because all things eventually equal out, I’m now struggling to get off of the tee from time to time. The wild 50 yard top is coming out.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Yeah, that's just golf in a nutshell, isn't it? It's zero-sum (seemingly): gains in one area seem to result in losses in other areas. Why? I have no idea. Let me know if you ever figure it out.

I looked up Old Head a couple weeks ago. Would love to play that course but for 400 euros for 18 holes, that is a little bit much for me haha. Maybe one day, but I cant do it on this trip.
